Squad announced, Goalkeepers: Julio Cesar (Inter Milan), Gomes (Tottenham Hotspur), Victor (Gremio) Defenders: Maicon (Inter Milan), Daniel Alves (Barcelona), Kleber (Internacional), Andre Santos (Corinthians), Alex (Chelsea), Juan (Roma), Lucio (Bayern Munich), Luisao (Benfica) Midfielders: Anderson (Manchester United), Gilberto Silva (Panathinaikos), Josue (Wolfsburg), Ramires (Cruzeiro), Elano (Manchester City), Felipe Melo (Fiorentina), Julio Baptista (Roma), Kaka (AC Milan) Forwards: Alexandre Pato (AC Milan), Luis Fabiano (Sevilla), Nilmar (Internacional), Robinho (Manchester City) Interesting squad, no Ronaldinho, no Adriano. A couple of new faces, this will either turn out really well or really bad as there are 2 very tough games ahead.
This is gonna be a tough game, I dont even remmember the last time we won in Uruguay. And honestly, I'm not too confident in this list of players against an inspired Uruguay in Montevideo. I predict a tie at best, I'll be very surprised if we come out with a win.
The last time we won was 25/2/76 in an Atlantic Cup game. An ordinary (!) player called Zico scored on his debut. Squad statistics link follows http://www.cbf.com.br/pdf/perfil_uruguai_paraguai09.pdf
Mais re our poor record there............. http://www1.folha.uol.com.br/folha/esporte/ult92u575459.shtml
If Dunga plays Josue and G. Sylva then expect a massive death on our midfield Im expecting Sylva and Melo (Hell ID prefer Josue and Melo) Our attack will be the same Fabiano, Robinho and Kaka. Im expecting that spot in midfield to be played by Elano, but with Dunga you never know. If he goes with his defensive shit, than its a 3 DM line Josue-G.Sylva-Melo In which case I would prefer Elano over (G.Sylva) Josue, so we can atleast have passing possesion in midfield.
It's ironic. The Uruguayans get crushed at home by Venezuela and Peru (was it Peru who beat them up that time too?). Then Brazil, who is way superior to them, can't beat them. It's as if Uruguay embodies its warrior-like 1950s/1960s spirit when they see Brazil's uniform in front of them. Diego Lugano, my man from the 2005 SPFC Libertadores winneres. He's gonna give Kaka and the other forwards a hard time. He's a nice guy who marks like a beast.
I am a little more optimistic about this one... Uruguay will miss Lugano, we are "hungry" for a win in their house. With guys like Luis Fabiano, Pato, Nilmar, Robinho, Felipe Melo, etc, we will pull a victory! It is about time, after 40 plus years??? I see no red cards at all ...
I would rather lose going for victory than draw doing this unadventurous conserative crap. F?cking go for it boys. 33 years is long enough.
And we're up 1x0 on an Alves shot from distance. Huge frango really. Alves had been wasting a lot of passes. This time took a risky shot and it paid off as the keeper couldn't handle it.
So far lots of Uruguayans trying to draw fouls while Brazil is actually getting fouled usually with their back to the goal around the halfway mark. Let's see if we can take advantage of the space that will open up and actually get effective counterattacks. A lot might depend on the ref and whether he puts up with persistent fouling.
Grainy but defenently the best one I found so far, I missed work for this game so I was desperate for atleast a decent feed. Thanks
It looked for a brief moment after the goal like we'd have wide-open spaces in which to attack but since then Uruguay has been very good at keeping the pressure on us and not letting us break out. They're also getting the calls now at least more so than earlier but overall the ref is good despite Arnaldo Cesar Coelho's concern - we'll see if he can be consistent for 90 minutes.
