Well, I don't fall into that demographic anymore.... so I guess I can't argue.

If it's not the Man U game this could be a disaster.

Other option might be to tailgate w/ Supporters group and stand in the Fort for a match.

Gonna be a tough sell to this guy.

FO should step in and make sure this guy has a good time. Give him a press pass or something so he be on the sideline. That's the demographic they need to win over.

This is the part that I agree with, which is the only reason this matters.

    Did you read the article?

Says the Rev girls invited him (seems like an inside job). Also said he will go to Galaxy game.

Any "guy" who's ignorant enough to bash something he knows NOTHING about is no god!!! He's just an idiot..!

I can bash any sport that I have played, veiwed and followed...because I can make a judgement based on first hand experience and evidence...any donkey who bashes the game just because they think it's for "foreiners", girls and kids..well, is an idiot..period!!

And if he wants to go to a Revs game..he should do it with an open mind and put all of his ignorant pre-conceived notions to the side. But, he'll probably be "hanging" with "da Revs girls" and getting all VIP...pppppffftt!!

Didn't see the LA game part, but I did see the Revs girl part....that's an issue with me.

This guy doesn't need 15 yr old girls showing him around...maybe pregame a little in the PL, but in the game he needs to be a part of the action (what little action there is) otherwise it's one blog away from alienating a lot of Boston Sports fans from the Revs.

I don't agree with him either, but it is what it is. He'll probably never be a soccer/Revs fan, but if all he has to say is that it was "pretty cool" then that's more marketing than Revs will get all season (except for Man U game)

I always wondered why nobody invited Jim Rome to a US vs. Mexico match to see it live? Might convince him the sport can be entertaining.

who gives a F. i'd almost rather have no attendance and have the team go out of business than have fratboy army descend. i've never read an opinion on any boston sports team on that website that wasn't ignorant and ill-informed, it's pretty sad that all it takes is softcore porn to get people to actually read what you crap out and call "writing."

Had some fun back-and-forth internet "discussions" about soccer with this guy back when Barstool got started. This is all I needed to read:

You can do the latter, but I'm pretty sure you can't do the former. That hasn't stopped some people from trying, God love those naive folks. ;)

I'll file this with the rest of RGs efforts. Well-intentioned but lame. The guy from SupahFans came down, still can't seem to get them to sell their (admittedly poorly designed) Revs shirts in their store. I went in a few weeks back, was told they didn't anymore (and wasn't told in a nice way). They seem to hit up every "dood guy" bar in the city with their "Searching For New Rev Girl" parties...hasn't seemed to do much. The entire thing seems to be a way to get Jen Harvey and the girls into bars without paying covers.

    Right.

One man's money is equal to another's, so if the Revs think the "dude guy bro" crowd is their ideal target audience that's going to drive up attendance, then more power to them. Maybe it'll work. They're the marketing "pros" and I'm not. But I just don't see it. This is probably the only under-30 demographic that is generally actively hostile toward soccer.

Barstool is hardly about sports writing, if you're looking for insightful sports commentary then you're clearly in the wrong place. I for one love the site for what it is, entertainment.

I also think that your comments about the BSS demographic ("dude guy bro crowd") to be somewhat outdated and jaded. There isn't nearly as much soccer hate as there was 5-10 years ago thanks to the success of international soccer in this country. If anything, you'll read many pro-soccer comments in the BSS comment section after an anti-soccer post from El Pres.

And honestly, I think that the "dude bro crowd" is one of the keys to success for any major sports franchise. I'm sure I'll be met with criticism here, but they tend to be pretty passionate about their teams. If the Revs ever move to Boston, the college demographic will be extremely important, and the majority of college aged males are reading BSS on a daily basis.

This, and anyone who takes offense to his prior soccer hating needs to chill. He writes what people read and as I'm sure he's figured out with the comments section, that people are warming up to soccer he's starting to at least give it a "chance." Whether this chance is genuine or not, this is probably the most attention the Revs have gotten in this area in a long time.
I hope that he's given as good as a time as possible and for people not to take anything that he writes or will write all too seriously.

A chance (...OK, a slim chance) to convert a media personality into a Revs fan?

    Why not?

    Game set match.

Who cares about this guy either way, honestly. If he goes to see the Revs, the experience needs to be genuine and soccer should be in there somewhere otherwise we're going to attract the wrong kind of 18-24s who will do stupid stuff and get the entire Fort in trouble.

What are the "wrong kind of 18-24's" and what kind of stupid things would the be doing to get the entire Fort in trouble (other than underage drinking)? This just sounds like an old man's mentality and a means for excluding other passionate fans. I'm not a member of the Rebellion, but I'm guessing that a good portion of their members are in the 18-24 range. I think that they've helped develop the atmosphere and TIFO in the Fort exponentially over the past two seasons. I really hate trying to exclude certain demographics based solely off of stereotypes and judgements.

I love the people saying "we don't need or want those type of fans anyways, F this guy etc etc" as if the Revs can afford to turn away ANY fans, let alone the massive number of followers Portnoy has in the most important demographic for sports.

Bring on the Stoolies, I say. One of the Revs girls needs to take one for the team.

As an 18-24 year old "fratboy," its a little awkward to see these kind of messages. With that said, I'm on barstool a lot, its a good site, but the guy is no coming into this open minded at all, the guy is a total moron who thinks he's gods gift to the world. I can see him showing up, making sarcastic comments the whole time, starting trouble, and then writing an article about how bad of a time he had, and its because thats how he is. Read any one of is "articles" and its oozing his "Im better" attitude.

Now to play Devils advocate here, we all have our opinions of having him come, some more negative then others (read above) but if he shows up and we give him the cold shoulder right off, then its just gonna make it worse. I know I hate the guy, but I'll give him a shot. If he shows up and seems open minded at all I'll be shocked. But who knows

Exactly. Obnoxiousness. That's what he peddles. Sadly, due to how popular a website can become by publishing softcore porn, it's become some sort of "face" of Boston sports fans and it's a face that isn't fair.

I disagree that you can characterize the entire 18-25 male demographic as being of that attitude, even a lot of the people who read barstool (for the pics and the links to weird stuff) think he's an idiot.

I agree that the Revs can't "turn anyone away." Money's money, like I said. I just don't think aiming for the "come look at the Rev Girls, they're hot and we have alcohol" crowd is the way the Revs are going to drive up attendance. Maybe I'm wrong.

Well attracting passionate fans in that demo is a good thing. I am not characterizing everyone in that demo to be bad, just dont want them reading too much into this guys comments and then see the revs as another place to go and start trouble, get in fights, etc.
