I hope every thing gets straightened out because your team looks like it might surprise a lot of people this year. Hell of a job on their first match. Congrads on the W. P.S. try to get more Edmonton fans on here. We need to Get an FC EDMONTON folder going.
That's good stuff right there. I assume those trains are going through downtown Edmonton? Atlanta showed up with a nice crowd opening night. As their fellow expansion team, you guys need to take up the challenge of topping their numbers on your opener. Good luck in Edmonton!
What will be interesting is that Edmonton's first game will be a cup match against TFC at Commonwealth. While everyone is hoping that will draw a very large crowd (why else go to the expense of playing in a capacity 60,000 stadium) it might remove some of that "first game" feeling from the league opener.
Seems to me it is the perfect opportunity to make a good showing on the field and get fans even more excited about the team. If they get whipped 4 - 0, it might hurt fan perception, but any kind of respectable result has got to be a positive for their home opener the following week.
TFC @ Edmonton is Wednesday the 27th, at 6:00 (mountain time). It kind of sucks in that Vancouver @ Montreal is on at the same time (8:00 EST) and as a Canadian soccer fan I would have liked to have watched both.
You could record one and watch the other at a bar or a friend's house. Is it possible that one of the games would be rebroadcast? Great FCE promo on the trains. I hope the other NASL teams/league are paying attention.
I like watching stuff live. Don't ask me why. Some more from the V's board: "By the way, there is also a giant billboard in Chinatwon for FCE, written in Mandarin. Also spotted a washroom ad in the 'Black Sheep' pub a few days ago... things are picking up!"
Well, there is something of a lack of options when it comes to larger stadia in Edmonton. There is virtually nothing mid-sized (well, there is the baseball stadium, but that's about the last place you'd want to try playing soccer). If you want a stadium with more than 5,000 in capacity, Commonwealth is the only option.
Yeah, when I said "very large crowd" I was meaning relative to the NASL. So 10,000 plus. Of course, I hope they sell all 60,000 seats. But that's not going to happen. And here's to hoping that the rumoured 8,000-10,000 seater at the Victoria Soccer Club comes to fruition.
FC Edmonton names a new GM, Tom Leip. From the article it looks like he has a decent background in sports management. Even has some USL experience. Hope it's a great hire for them. http://nasl.com/index.php?id=3&newsid=532 Mods if this needs to be elsewhere please move it. I put it here because there is no FC Edmonton thread.
It looks like FC Edmonton will be posting game videos on their site. Here's a direct link to [ame="http://vimeo.com/23663955"]FC Edmonton v Impact Montreal[/ame]. Not the best match, but in the future it might be interesting to know that if you want to rewatch/watch(delayed) a game they'll be there.

I was curious to see Tampa play, but I had to bail. It's just impossible to watch soccer played on that ugly thing. Didn't look like that many there.
A couple of times you could hear a chant start up over the feed, but it never sounded like more than 2 or 3 people and didn't last long each time. How is it going with forming a supporter group up there?
The ESG is in it's infancy. They're at the stage where they've got a facebook page and a symbol. I've read that on Tuesday they only had 3 actual ESG members there, what with it being a Tuesday and people unable to make it to the game. But they're laying the foundations and hopefully they'll build something nice out there. ... And by foundation, I mean a guy with a drum and a cowboy hat.
