Got a break at the last minute. In stead of 30 to life, he got 25. But still, that's almost as good as a life sentence for the 60 year old.

Former Worldcom Chief Executive Bernard Ebbers was handed a 25-year prison term for directing the biggest accounting fraud in corporate history, leaving thousands of investors empty-handed.

CNBC and other news organizations originally reported the sentence as between 30 years and life in prison. However, Ebbers’ attorneys were allowed to speak before the final sentence was handed down and the judge ultimately decided to render a final, 25-year verdict..........

Ha! Great news. Hope Bernie rots in hell in prison for destroying so many lives with his fraud.

I think he will have to serve at least a third of his sentance, so he has to do at least 8 years. Just hope they send him to an Oz-like prison instead of a country club place. He would definetly be a Beecher-like guy.

Over-under that ITN comes on board and blames every thing on Ebbers wife, and takes pro-Bernie side: 4 minutes, 15 seconds.

You forgot that he will blame Liberals and/or Clinton for this.

Do you know if this guy's going to a regular prison and will be treaded as just another prisoner-you know, with murderers, burglars, rapists, attackers, and the like...

    Or will get special treatment?

News Flash! ITN has informed me that Ebbers deserves to have fingernails ripped off. Bernie!

    Not the wife.

Ebbers did not sell one share of the stock and actually borrowed heavily to buy more and more and more. Maybe that was the reason he got some leniency from the judge. Here's an aricle on this.

    Was Ebbers' sentencing too harsh?

Is a 25-year prison sentence too harsh a penalty for former WorldCom chief executive officer Bernie Ebbers?
That's a question that's likely to draw much debate the next few days and weeks following Wednesday's sentencing by a federal judge in New York.

Ebbers, 63, was convicted for his role in the $11 billion accounting fraud that toppled the Clinton-based company and wiped out billions of investor dollars. Ebbers won't be eligible for parole until he is 85.

It was the harshest sentence handed down in a series of corporate scandals that began with the 2001 fall of Texas-based Enron.

"I find that a sentence of anything less would not reflect the seriousness of this crime," U.S. District Judge Barbara Jones told Ebbers at his sentencing.

"The man's 62. He's going to die in jail. How much sterner could you get?" Gino Cavallo, who worked for WorldCom and lost much of his retirement money, told the Associated Press following the sentencing.

Great news, 25 years for a 60 year old is basicly a live sentence so thumps up.

The article I read said he would have to serve over 20 years! The amazing thing to me was that he, like the other robber barons, is permitted to remain free on bail, until given a prison to report to at a later time! The judge may even let him remain out while his appeals drag on.
