Yeah Mike Hunter a local guy out of Santa Clara U first played indoor but then played five straight NASL outdoor seasons with the Quakes. Too bad he never got picked for the national team as he deserved it. He showed up for the San Diego Sockers indoor preseason MISL campaign for coach Ron Newman in October 1986 but don't think he ended up making the team as they had a stacked roster at that time.
The National Soccer Hall of Fame ballot for the Class of 2021 was released this week, and includes a host of NASL and MISL stars among the Veterans Candidates. Nice to see the NASL and MISL names as well as many Quakes players recognized. A family friend who was an old NASL referee, Gino D'Ippolito is also eligible. I hope he gets in! I hope Lincoln Phillips gets in. I met him once at Bowie State U, MD. He was a coach for the Chesapeake Dragons, of USL-PRO. I was there to AR for the game. We had a nice chat. When he introduced himself, it was wow. I told him I remembered his playing days. He said thanks, because not many people did.
