I believe that's what he said. Just he called them "blast horns" which they are.

To be fair, the Galaxy have not allowed horns to be sold at its home games for a few years now. The ban went into effect after complaints from season ticket holders - sound familiar?

However, those blasted horns are allowed and sold at Chivas USA home games.

It's good that a decision has come forward... has anyone been able to confirm this? I haven't seen anything anywhere else and have not received anything from the Quakes on this.

    BOOOO!!!!!
I know SJEQ81 is prob. laughing at me. I really don't care of the decision but know the stage set for the fans who want to sing to step your "game" up and singing/chanting/hollering. If it quite then there was no success in getting the plastic horn banned.

Great news. Thank you front office! Singing good...horns bad.

They did it so if we have an early game we wont awaken the students...that way they can sleep off the hangovers from the night before! Either way thank you for not allowing them at the shaw as I am okay with the horns in Oakland.

Yeah it'll be nice to be horn free at Buck Shaw. The Coliseum however isn't as bad. It's so big and even if we pack what we can the place wouldn't be full anyway. The extra sounds can be useful in a place that big.

Those damn horns are annoying, no doubt about it. That is especially true if some young kid is sitting behind you who hasn't a clue about what going on and just likes the likes the noise.

Not much has really been said about the neighborhood around Buck Shaw, but I think it is likely true that the fans need to be respectful of the area, and be on our best behavior. If there is a lot of unnecessary noise (and I believe genuine fan exuberance IS necessary....that just doesn't need plastic horns), we can bet that the neighbors would start to complain. With the airport and railroad close by, we don't need to act like we are in church. Those horns are not just loud, they are irritating.

While I agree that horns at MLS games currently end up being annoying and sound bad, here's one example of what appears to sound like horns being used well:

That sounds like real trumpets or cornets or bugles made from metal, i.e., real band instruments. Those of us who state we are opposed to horns are talking about the plastic kind.

Bringing REAL horns into the building would put a whole new spin on ordering tickets...

Fan at ticket window: "Hi. I need 4 in the woodwind section, please."

Can we bring in a Cannon for Quakes goals (Why not? NFL and college pointyball teams do)?

Sounders FC is going to put the brass and strings front and center, as MLS's first and only marching band will debut with the team in 2009. As great an ambassador for soccer and MLS as Drew Carey is, he certainly comes up with some wacky ideas. Apparently the marching band and the club's "membership" approach were two points that Carey made the other owners commit to before he jumped on board.

And just to agree with you (and keep this thread on topic), yes, we who are opposed to horns have a problem with the monotone plastic variety and not professional instruments.
