Nah, they pretty much sucked all around I thought. I can listen to little metal but these guys were a too campy for me.
Don't believe these people. Metal School rocked and attracted a very large crowd after the game. They really got the crowd into the music, and were very funny to boot. --- There are lots of possible '80s costumes. My brother came with a early-'80s Devo hat (Earthquake blue, of course) and I came in a late-'80s skinny tie, suspenders, and moused hair.
That's just one man's opinion, Roqabilly. Take Metal Skool for what it was, and it was all right. The kids were dancing and the people were singing along. Most looked like they were enjoying themselves, and ain't that what it's all about? Bottom line is, I wrote the Quake's FO letting them know I appreciated them finally getting a band out at Spartan and hope this is something they continue. One game have a blues band, another salsa, funk. Whatever. I believe a good time was had by all (well, most all).
My wife and I enjoyed the show very much, too. (BTW, We met in the middle of 80s and got married in 91 and moved from Japan to San Jose in '00, .... started watching Quakes games in '02
Thanks Shasta, Spejic and Towatana. I have never seen Metal Skool but have been a fan (hearing recordings for years) I have just never made it to LA on a Monday night. I pretty much would have given up everything that night to be there. I am surprised the Quakes did not say anthing about the name of the band. Metal Skool did not make any announcements either (I am on their yahoo group list and also as a friend on myspace) I grew up listening to 80's metal and still listen all the time.
It isn't my favorite, but I think it was the right choice. The music is simple and catchy and optimistic. Is there anyone over 30 who does not know the words to "Living on a Prayer"? That was the most fun I've had in a sing-along since I stopped finger painting. I'm not sure as many people would stick around to a eyeliner and black hair band singing about how love is a pathetic act of defiance by a race about to be exterminated by nuclear war in a British accent. Especially after the Quakes put on such a dominating performance.
I too thought that Metal Skool absolutely rocked - all the way around - from their look to their music to their comedy to the way they got the audience to participate and let loose! And I'm a rhythm and blues/jazz person myself.
Rocks or sucks discussion is not suitable for message board type communication. To be perfectly honest, I felt offended :-( but I don't think anybody is trying to hurt other person's feelings by expressing his/her opinion. And even it still sucks, You Can Still Rock In America! (This thread is for 80's right? :-D Peace out
I seriously think the Quakes should strongly consider a reggae group next. With the right group, it would probably be just as much fun if not more.
ROTFLOL! ----- http://www.metalskool.com is down right now, but for those who want to check out pics of the band: http://www.albertr.com/MetalSkool/ Just the way they dressed was a laffer, but they played the parts to the hilt very well and it was good so thumbs up there... Now, how come they didn't play Sister Christian, to keep with the theme that you can still rock in America?
I like it! Reggae night. Actually doesn't DeRo moonlight a bit as a reggae DJ? I'm heavily in favor of live music over the DJ thing, but just imagine DeRo out there in the middle of the field after a game in which he's scored his typical goal and an assist, playin' tunes and doin' his funky strut.
Dreadlocks and carribean jerk mon! No spliffs allowed... unless it can be legalized! High time for a reggae night next season, pun intended.
This is all making me pine for the old days with the Blackhawks when they had a live house band for every game. I'm surprised gAlexi didn't think of that.
He actually did. He even talked to me, proposing an idea of my band playing in a "beer garden" somewhere inside the stadium at the half-time. Of course I would love to do that, but I hadn't heard any follow-up.
hey did anyone see gayle? the guy who plays the drums in the costba? he was dressed at mr.T prittyyy sick
