Only condemnation I've seen towards Ubisoft is that they made up a BS excuse for not having a female lead character. The truth is Ubisoft; like all other publishers, have focus group data that shows if the lead character isn't a white dude they risk sales. And are people really making demands? Has there been people in the video game press who have said they won't buy Unity if a female lead isn't added? Cause I haven't seen it. Because the video game playing community is diverse and I think that should be represented in games. Also I am getting tired of playing a white dude. I do it everyday of my life. ha! Yeah that is the reason I see Ubisoft is getting so much stick. When other video game developers go public laughing at your excuse you know ya screwed up. frustratingly so. I was hopeful that with the new console cycle we'd see some new IPs from 1st party or major developers. So far I can only think of Ryse and Knack with Sunset Overdrive, The Order, Bloodborn, and Quantum Break coming soon. Thankfully the smaller developers keep getting stronger and keep releasing new titles.
Ubisoft goes on and on about how their employees are a very diverse bunch too ... gender, race, religion, etc.
I hate when developers dont take risks to create new experiences. They go with the safe choice and stick with what works instead of making something fresh.
you realize why they do this right? How many companies have gone out of business in the last few years? Over 30. They go with what sells games to stay alive. Unfortunate, but thats the way it goes these days
Money talks. :/ The devs cant solely be blamed. I also blame people's taste in games. lol If only everyone was just like me and had identical preferances....
http://grantland.com/hollywood-pros...rl-and-more-fun-questions-from-this-years-e3/ Jonathan Cooper's comments are also relevant. It's pretty clear that Ubisoft just has no interest in making the effort, and are using weak-sauce excuses. It would be braver and a lot more honest if they just came out and said "we have absolutely no interest in creating female protagonists for this game, sorry."
Why not? Its a risk, but respectable developers take risks and create new experiences. Instead of hashing out the same shit every year. But again, I also blame the shitty taste of average consumer. All they want is more COD, FIFA and GTA.
I also have yet to see the proof that dudes won't play female protagonists. If that is the case, then why were series like Tomb Raider, NOLF and Mirror's Edge successful? IIRC, NOLF actually bombed when they released a game that had a male protagonist instead of Cate Archer. But the criticism against Ubisoft was indeed almost entirely aimed at their weak sauce excuses.
Why not? Because of the amount of money that these companies put into development and marketing. They need to make that back somehow, and more importantly try to make a profit. With the amount of studios we're seeing closing their doors over recent months/years, those who are still around probably don't see the risk worth taking.
So was Total War: Rome II from The Creative Assembly. I would not trust anything from E3. Watch Dogs anyone?
Been playing the BF Hardline beta and the Destiny Alpha, one word sums up my experience with them: SNOOZEFEST Can't believe over $500 mil was spent on the crap that is Destiny
http://teamcoco.com/video/conan-visits-E3-2014 Conan is also impressed with the Project Morpheus street luge... although at the end his experience was way better than mine.
478673535293198336 is not a valid tweet id Full disclosure: I love the AC series and will almost certainly play this but I'm also quite comfortable in mocking their self-created sausage fest.
