it's either the the dvd burner or the software, but every time i tried to burn a dvd that has imported videos that i downloaded from online dvd always ends up in "error". software that I have used are nero 6.6 and Ulead DVD Movie Factory 3.5. Any suggestions?
To make sure what kind of DVDs your burner supports, open up Nero: Nero - Recorder - Choose Recorder Then if you highlight your burner, a little below that it says 'disc type' and there it says if your burner supports DVD+ or DVD- discs. I don't know what kind of videos (avi. asf, mpg, etc.) you want to burn on your dvds, that might also be the problem.
Ok, so that isn't the problem if your dvd burner can burn on dvd+ discs. What kind of file are you trying to burn on the dvd? You might need to re-encode the file if you want to be able to see the dvd on a standalone dvd player (if this isn't the case, then making a data dvd would solve everything, because you can burn anything on those)
never thought bout making a data dvd, so if i do that that could play in a stand alone dvd player like in my living room for example?
no, it couldn't. You need to burn as DVD-Video option in Nero. What type of files are we talking about (mpv, mpg, .avi, etc.), which codec are they compressed with, and how are you authoring them in Ulead? These are essential to determining what's going on.
are the mpeg's mpge2? and are they dvd compliant? Are you uncompressing the divx and encoding as mpeg2? A divx encoded avi won't burn to a video DVD without recompression.
