Tata's record for finding diamonds on the rough is not good. Miles didn't get a chance until he left. Bello only got spot minutes.
I think at this point in the cycle someone like Vazquez is just not someone Mexico is going to try and poach. They are pretty locked into their strikers and to get Vazquez this close to the World Cup you have to offer him a legit shot to compete for a World Cup spot. Tata just isn't doing it, but Berhalter may. Now if he doesn't end up making the World Cup roster for the US in November, then Mexico probably does try for him next cycle at some point.
I frankly don't think Mexico rates him, given reports that Chivas was mining some fan site for a transfer valuation. Now I know there's a difference between an also-ran Liga MX team and the FMF, but I think it's indicative of what the thinking is regarding MLS-developed forwards.
I don't think he's on their World Cup radar. They are absolutely going to turn to players like Santi Gimenez, Henry Martin, Eduardo Aguirre and JJ Macias in terms of striker, long before Brandon Vazquez. If you toss Raul at this front there, that's their striker pool. I'd expect Jimenez, Gimenez and Martin at the World Cup.
I don't think he is either and given that, there's no risk of losing him for the time being. Tata is pretty set on Jimenez, Gimenez, and Funes Mori I think. And I think Vazquez will almost certainly be on the September camp roster for the USMNT too.
Yup. Mexico loves to poach youth players on the idea that they may one day turn into something. But it's much harder to poach someone like Vazquez unless they are actually going to play a role with your team immediately.
I don't know about that. Tata didn't use a big group of young Atlanta players (Carleton, Goslin, and that whole first generation of homegrowns). But he did provide a lot of opportunities to Vasquez and Miles Robinson. So he must have seen something. Here's the crazy thing about Tata Martino. Mexico is ranked 12th in the World. They've lost 1 game all of calendar year 2022 (to Uruguay). And yet everybody flips out about how they're some kind of disaster. Their average ranking this cycle has been better than the previous cycle. True story. ....................but anyway, I have no clue why Mexico isn't interested in Vasquez. They've called up Mexican-Americans like Ochoa from MLS that have nowhere near the same impact. They're calling up former FCD homegrown Alex Zendejas to camps. Why? I don't know. Zendejas wouldn't get near any kind of USMNT camp.
For Miles these are his numbers while playing for Tata. 2017 he was promoted to 1st team of Atlanta. He did not play a single game. Miles started the 2018 season with Atlanta2 he played 14 games he was promoted to the first team and played only 10 games. After Tata left, Miles played 34 games the following season (2019) For Vazquez here are his numbers. 2017 he played 13 games with the first team. 2018 he played 8 games. Halfway through the season, he was sent to Atlanta 2, he played 6 After Tata left, he played 11 games with first team and 6 with Atlanta2. The following year he went Cincy.
It's the way Mexico is playing, really uninspiring soccer and not a lot of scoring from the forwards. It's a big difference from how the team played in the first half of Tata's tenure. I still think Chicharito should be called but I doubt Tata bites the bullet unless the scoring drought continues.
We will take all the dual nats pls I think We might be onto something 👀🇺🇸 #USMNT pic.twitter.com/vNp2IArRxN— Edgar Moreno 🇺🇸🇲🇽 (@ConcacafEdgar) August 9, 2022
19 year old Dual National keeper Zion Suzuki 🇺🇸🇯🇵 kept a clean sheet for Urawa Reds in a massive 3-0 win against Nagoya Grampus (J-League). He is becoming one of the best goalkeeper talents in Asia. Just to confirm the situation As reported during our @TUDNUSA broadcast of the #MLSAllStar game. Brandon Vázquez tells me that no one from the Mexican Federation, not even Tata Martino, has talked or even approached him yet. Not once. Looks like a clear path for a #USMNT September call-up.— Michele Giannone (@MicheleG3) August 11, 2022

Tata Martino has his forwards set for Qatar. Brandon Vázquez's USMNT chances have always been more favorable. https://t.co/y1NTF5UCc2— Felipe Cárdenas (@FelipeCar) August 11, 2022 Tata is definitely set in his forwards so don't think it will change. Who knows what the next coach might do though.
<Drudge siren> DUAL NAT DEBUT <Drudge siren> Koleosho Koleosho on for Espanyol. 17-year-old CAN/USA dual national makes his La Liga debut.— Matthew Doyle (@MattDoyle76) August 13, 2022 Edit: NOT a debut, Luca Koleosho played for Espanyol last season. So a 17 year old playing in his second season in La Liga... that's even more impressive!
Yes he is and the US is the only country he’s played for so far (U-15s)… Luca Koleosho hasn't closed the door on USMNT despite Canada call-up - source “Counting friendlies, he's played in 7 of last 8 games team has played going back to May.” Pay attention to this. We've all been overlooking this storyline. Only 17 and now seems to be in the first team picture of a La Liga club. Counting friendlies, he's played in 7 of last 8 games team has played going back to May. Also has Canada path, which might include WC spot. https://t.co/iWdOayUnDE— USMNTProspects (@ProspectsUsmnt) August 13, 2022
Well if Canada offers him a World Cup spot don’t know if there’s a ton we can do on that front. Of course for him to be cap tied he’d have to actually play in the World Cup too. His current path with the US probably involves the U20 World Cup and the Olympics, and possibly next summer’s Gold Cup.
He's English and undoubtedly surrendered his Green Card when he left the US (why pay US taxes on a lot of money when you don't have to?) He's provisionally cap-tied to England for 2 U21 appearances back in 2017. He could conceivably do a one-time switch under the new FIFA eligibility rules, but that would mean 5 years living in the US to get citizenship (3 if married to a US citizen). He did get his Green Card in 2017, but probably surrendered it. Even if he retained it, he moved to the UK back in early 2018, so he had no way to get the additional 1.5 years of physical presence in the US (taking off the one year of time before he moved to England). Even if he spent all his vacation in the US, he would be nowhere near getting 135+ days a year physically in the US during that time. And the clock resets on the early credit after 5 years, so he would lose the year of 2017 if he didn't apply for US citizenship. So, all that being said, there is almost no way he is near getting US citizenship.
He’s not ever playing for us, but it won’t have anything to do with taxes. I’m sure the taxes he pays in England more than cover whatever his tax bill might be in America if he still has the green card.
