Santiago Munoz (‘02) got his pro debut for Santos Laguna on Sunday with 17 minutes off the bench.

I think we should just turn over the U20 forward pool to players with FCD connections. Pepi, Munoz, Gomez, and Kelman.

Munoz, of course, played for an FCD affiliate: FCD El Paso.

If Munoz does actually switch, where does he rank in our depth chart? Would he even make our "best" U20 roster? Don't get me wrong, I want our talent pool to be as robust as possible. I've just never been entirely convinced by Munoz.

Cajuste likely off the table. There were certainly questions regarding his eligibility. It was worth trying to peel him away from Sweden, but he's chosen to stay with them. I don't agree with the comment from the tweet about depth at his position. We have prospects at the #6 spot, but only the oft-injured Adams is excelling at a high level right now. As noted by the fact that the other two #6s at our USMNT camp are U20s Johnny and Otasowie (who may develop into a CB).

Hard to know how serious it is.

Quickest way for a youth international in Mexico or the US to get a callup? Have somebody in your camp leak to the press that you haven't made up your mind, and are interested in exploring the other side.

Munoz will now be in the next Mexico U20 or U23 camp. Book it.

I don’t understand what happened. Did the player ever have interest in playing for us or was this all a recalculation by USSF that he might be eligible without any indication the player ever had interest in playing for us.

I think Munoz should be a welcome addition to the pool. I don’t know where he’d end up within the pool, but Hoppe and Gomez aren’t having much success the last two seasons. AOC doesn’t seem to be rated by the Seattle, and even if he is, isn’t being developed well. Kelman is an option, but not a sure thing. Pepi would be playing up a cycle and has had mixed results this domestic season. I think the more options at striker the better because I’m not convinced any of them are great options right now.

    True.

Our options/depth seem better than last cycle, though.
Let's not forget that the forward group for our 2018 CONCACAF U20 Championships team included an NCAA player, Griffin Dorsey.

Where would Munoz fit in the depth chart? No idea.
All I know is that one appearance in Liga MX doesn't impress me as much as it used to.

Unless Munoz has personal reasons for watching to join the U.S. at this time, it seems extremely difficult to believe he would file a one-time switch just to add himself to our U20 pool during such an unusual cycle in terms of scheduling. But what do I know?

If Shashoua was offered a spot for Olympics, do we think he'd file a one time switch?
