Manchester United signing of striker Odion Ighalo is all done. Joins #MUFC on loan until end of season, no option to buy. 30yo Nigeria international will fly from China to UK in next few days. He will not undergo a medical but is fit to play @TheAthleticUK https://t.co/JsZSmCIYUC— David Ornstein (@David_Ornstein) January 31, 2020
. The no option to buy is a nice bonus. No confusion (or expectations) and he knows exactly what he's there for. Hopefully, fulfilling the dream of playing for the club he supported as a kid, will help make it a successful loan stint. Just hope he can deliver, simply because we need him to. Simple as.
The January market is a crap market - especially for strikers. The club effed up massively getting rid of two strikers and getting none - so only going in to the season with 3 strikers of which one was a 17 year old and one a wing-forward rather than a #9 was irresponsible. So entirely of their own making, but with the injury at least they have tried to do something. Hope it works out - would have been stupid to have a great passer in Bruno without options for him to pass to 2nd half of the season.
Apparently Spurs were in for Ighalo but he chose us to they pivoted to another Chinese league striker and that fell through at the last minute. Jose is gonna be in full rage mode tomorrow. Gonna be hilarious.

Probably best news for our top 4 hopes was Chelsea not signing anyone having had their transfer ban lifted. Surprising.
I can’t believe they didn’t sign anyone. Especially with how publicly they said they would spend and how public Lampard was about needing reinforcements. We rightfully bitches and moaned about are window but they’ve really had a bad one. They’re going to be very reliant on Tammy.
I think we had a decent window. I know people feel we missed out on Haaland, but I think there's definitely been a move to stop being held ransom by agents/clubs. I'd like to think the Bruno deal could have been done sooner, but we needed a short term striker who gives us a bit of a plan B and this fits the bill. I have some thoughts on Ole that I'll post elsewhere, but this was a good window for him as a manager and for us as a club. We were dealt a difficult blow and we were able to get better (Bruno) and get short term cover with an option to keep (this is the role Lukaku would have played though) if he fits the bill without the risk of taking on a salary and paying a fee for someone you need to move on shortly. The situation with Lukaku was a lot more complicated that people gave credit for. Rom didn't want to be at the club and specifically didn't want to be a rotation option. At the same time, the club very clearly wanted to reinforce the defense with the funds raised from Lukaku. Until we got those deals done, we couldn't know how much would have been available to spend on a backup option until we were able to complete the sale of Lukaku and the purchases of AWB and Maguire. Even so, at the time Lukaku was sold, the club had mentioned King as a viable backup.
