Isn't he talking about after the 2013 season... when his contract is up?

The one thing about Donovan is he's very introspective, and not shy about sharing those introspective thoughts (even when it might be better not to). I wouldn't read too much into this.

Just preparing to go to Everton permanently, without actually saying that as a current member o LAG.

He can do whatever he wants, obviously, and I won't be upset with him if retires. I'll be upset because it will be a blow to the national team, but I won't hold against him personally. With that said, I don't see him retiring 6-7 months before the World Cup, after the Hex. He might "retire" from the Galaxy and go on loan to Everton to stay match fit, and then retire after the 2014 World Cup, but I would be shocked if he walked away from soccer altogether at that specific time.

Goal.com? I'm not believing it. Any other sources? Yes I know there's been lack of motivation and talk of retiring surrounding Donovan.

I was under the impression that he'll see out this cycle and retire after the World Cup ends.

This. He is NOT going to retire just before the World Cup, in Brazil no less. He will be there, assuming the US qualifies and he is uninjured. With that being said, I have been saying for 3 years that he won't be around as a player much longer after that ... 2 years max, and I see him walking away. He doesn't breathe the game like so many others do. Good on him.

Also that last part he says about having the wrong motivation as a young man and how it was a mistake is a great message to send to the youth.

Get him to Everton so he can go up against the best in preparation before Rio. LD needs to pick it up and become re-energized. I think he's over the MLS and the move to Everton would do wonders.

There is a > 0% chance that Landon plays in Russia. There is a >95% chance that he plays in Brazil. He's not retiring any time soon.

I think he wants to go to Everton sooner rather than later. I think LA should oblige him.

I don't know how people haven't figured this out with the amount of Evertonians talking about it.

    He's not retiring people.

EDIT: Think about it. There's nary a sniff, not one, about him reupping his contract.

ESPN Insider did a story like a week ago saying MLS insiders told them that Landon would not be in MLS next year. And they don't mean retiring.

You clearly haven't been watching him in MLS for the last two months. He's looked great, with 7 goals and 9 assists in 11 matches. He was injured, tired, and (as a result) very cautious yesterday. However, if he's healthy, I can't wait to see him in the WCQs.

Your post that I quoted specifically mentions him being "over" MLS.

I see him playing through 2014 and then hanging it up.

Guy has been going non-stop since he was what? 18? 19?

Lots of miles. He's gotta be completely gassed by now.

Could be I don't know. I just don't see him leaving till after the world cup and this as a ploy to leave. However if he is ready to retire he should he owes nothing to any of us.
