I'd say bride, groom, maid of honor, and usually the parents are really the only ones who care about the planning and/or need to be at the rehearsal. Also in terms of bachelor/bachelorette parties the region I'm from tends to do those a month or so before the date so that's why I'm not factoring that in (also if they are leaving to be involved with those then I'm really annoyed by this)
I hope you neglected this portion of your job. One of the funnest days I had with my grandparents was a post-wedding bar party with my grandparents who were drinking and whooping it up like a bunch of college kids. So much family nostalgia greatness, one forgets to stay on topic.
I got her full of punch and danced freaky with her....my poor mother was so embarrassed....my grandmother laughed till she almost cried... When that video comes out, my wife leaves the room.....still
Let Donovan and Dempsey stay the weekend for the weddings and forget about coming back to D.C. for the game. That would be a better move for team morale. At this point, I hope Jamaica plays a strong game, so that that bunch doesn't get off cheaply. As if Donovan and Dempsey and their families didn't know that this is always the time of year the Gold Cup is played. As if the US hasn't played four consecutive poor games in a few weeks. As if Donovan and Dempsey's performances have been clicking like clockwork. The USSF should be penalized for their incredible dumbness.
Whoa. This thread is the epitome of tabloid gossip. Next order of business: Did you see Bradley's new haircut? Edu's arm look sooo massive in the new red/blue kit!
Anyone who is angry at the players here is completely out of line. At the end of the day soccer is their job and you can't devote your entire life to work. They would regret in the end. Its not like they're missing a game, and if it wasn't practice this week it would be practice before the next game (If we make it there). Its not like this is the only month they play soccer they had to miss something sometime as long as it isn't the world cup I don't care.
Not entire life, just your 9 to 5. And if you ask for a long lunch break, don't expect your company to pay for your taxi ride back to the office.
Its just practice.... Honestly the rest will be good for each of them everyone here is acting like they are missing the game, i don't think Dempsey has had 4 days off in a year. Also like others said before in the thread its not like BB is going to change the tactics/lineups at all.
I would hope that they would offer to help defray some of the costs...family or not, the fed is doing them a HUGE favor
It's not about practice, and this time off is anything BUT rest. The weddings are on Saturday, which means that the players won't be getting back to the team hotel until early Sunday morning. The day of the game.
Tell Allen Iverson, Rookie of the year NBA Player of the Year 11 Time Allstar 4 Time NBA Scoring Champion Top scorer in 2001 NBA Championship Series "It's just practice..." He achieved more in his sport than either of these two and was vilified for just *a* missed practice. Then again, sports writers actually care about Basketball.
Perhaps, the USSF sees the value in not having the players subject to layovers and delays. Just sayin'.
Eh, Clint and Landon's 9-5 jobs are with Fulham and the Galaxy, respectively. US Soccer is a side gig.
Let's leave the speculation about Landon's sexuality and the generalizations about "females" out of the thread, please.
Hmmm...as I said in one of my previous posts: who's to say that Landon or Clint didn't find a gym to work out in... From Ives twitter: Seems he's trying to make the best of a difficult situation. Even though, according to BS, he supposedly doesn't care and isn't motivated to win.
The same Ives who's been reporting training is going GREAT without them and how they aren't missed and how this confed cup has been a break out Sascha and Bedoya.. If you were to listen to Ives, these weddings are the best thing that's ever happened to the USMNT. (not that I think they should have missed them) Ives is a good source of news (even if somewhat biased) on the USMNT, and a awful source of editorial, he's far, far to invested in the Bradley's. The USMNT could lose to Cuba and Ives would make the case for 8 more years for Bradley in the same story reporting that news.
No, I haven't actually been reading Ives. He merely retweeted a tweet that stated that US Soccer confirmed that LD had practiced with the Galaxy. So he wasn't editorializing; it was simply news he retweeted. I don't care for his editorialization either. As I said, I see it as LD trying to make the best out of a difficult situation. Lemonade out of lemons, so to speak. You clearly don't look at it that way. That's fine.
No, I think it's good LD made the effort and as mentioned Ives does a decent job on news. I just get tired of his rabid fanyboism and very public disregard/disdain for this community. I figure since he makes his lack of respect so public, we should do the same in return. And as if an angle heard my voice....Ives proves my point. Ives: Really...really a win Sunday will make the Gold Cup a success? The expectation used to be to win the Gold Cup, now Ives has lowered the bar to winning a QF game? I thought it might be me reading into his words but then he reinforces this new lower standard to end the article. Ives: Its like a friggin Jedi mind trick...forget about the finals, forget about Mexico, a win Sunday means we are back. Worse he has the nerve to mention the 2005 and 2007 wins, we were ranked 4 in the frigging world in 2006, now 22. phlease.
Could you imagine Clint at the Dallas airport having a United airlines staff person tell him there was a delay or even worse the flight was cancelled? After a steely wide eyed stare from Clint I don't think we'd be able to find that staff person today.
I so look forward to this controversy being over so that wedding-related ads won't show up any more while I'm reading BigSoccer. No thanks, I don't want to register at Crate and Barrel, I got married years ago!
Dear Clint: May you and your family have a great time at your sister's wedding. Unfortunately, some on Big Soccer have the warped impression that a game is more important than family. They may not know that you lost a sibling, and how big an impact that had and continues to have on you. You better than most appreciate the importance of family, and professional success obviously hasn't clouded your judgment or misdirected your priorities. All the best to all of you. We'll see you Sunday.
Does it make anyone feel better that right now we have two star players sitting around a table with their ties loosened, totally blitzed, wondering how the hell they're going to make their flight tomorrow morning?
