First of all, Donovan and Dempsey don't make $18 and $27 million/a year. Second, my guess is that if A-Rod or Jeter asked for time off to attend a wedding while facing an elimination game during the World Series, that the New York media would have a frenzy. Just a guess.

And yes, everyone is replaceable on this team. I saw them play in Tampa, they pretty much all sucked. They need all the practice they can get.

Is Single A League really professional?

And why would anyone ever take a baseball player's opinion on Soccer?

Gold Cup = World Series

My only criticism is that they left on Wednesday. Why not leave after morning practice on Friday?

Not single A. The pacific coast league. Might want to look into it.

Some of us played many sports growing up, and many of us chose a path that offered the greatest reward financially. I'm not sure you'd be any different. Unfortunately, soccer is financial suicide for many athletes. Doesn't mean we have a disdain for other sports. I mean if soccer was followed as religiously as any of the other big 4 sports in this country, we wouldn't even be talking about this.

I played football all my life, does that make you better than me?

Your post is just ignorant. Don't we all want soccer to grow in this country? But you want to come on here and try to belittle someones opinion? Just because he didn't play youth soccer like you doesn't mean his opinion means any less. One of the dumbest posts I've seen here and that's saying a lot.

So when I'm running my Football manager team (Millwall) and one of my players tells me he's missing home, I usually just cut him loose. He'll go out of form, get better, then start missing his family again, and his attitude unsettles the whole team. Better to cut out the cancer than giving in to him.

I think we can all agree that we should apply my hard-line stance on LD and CD, because I currently have Millwall at the top of the prem, in the league cup finals, and in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

I'm well aware of what it is. You probably blew through my city once or twice. Hope that playing in front of a half full stadium in OKC really helped you with your life fulfillment goals.

Good for you. How your minor league playing experience equates to you thinking two of the best players ever developed in the US shouldn't even consider asking off for "practice" for a wedding, I dunno. #1 - It's not their club, you know, their primary employer, #2 They're not missing games, #3 International Soccer, ain't life or death.

Unfortunately, USSoccerFans have only recently willing to support the cost of paying soccer players a living wage in the US.

Not to mention that the drive to attain professional status in any sport is financial suicide for all kinds of athletes and families in the US. I mean, 2/3 or something of NFL players are bankrupt within 3 years of getting out of the league.

Yes it would. Players in all the the leagues have missed time for funerals/weddings/births etc. Hell, Raptorfans went all ********ing off on some NBA player because he attended his college graduation after continuing his degree after leaving college early.

Maybe? I was probably better at it than you?

I find anyone wasting electrons venting their spleen over two supremely conditioned athletes in the prime of their careers missing two-three practices pretty ignorant. YMMV.

When it needs to be belittled, yeah. It's kinda what I do around here.

There was no mention of you soccer, only the opinion of a guy thinking his minor league experience remotely related to the Donovan/Dempsey situation of missing a couple of practices. It's sort of like that one vet who tells people who shit should be just because he's been in the military. Of course, the comparison here is some supply clerk telling Seal Team Six members what the rules are.

You're either new or don't get out much.

I am curious to know the last summer that either player had off like many other internationals such as those in Europe or Africa.

    05, No
    06, No
    07, No
    08, No
    09, No
    10, No
    11, No

Remember they only have like a week or two to get back to their clubs after summer international duty. In Landon's case, he doesnt get off. They could have said no to the gold cup like Guzan. But atleast they try to do a lot, unlike other players on other national teams.

The argument doesnt matter either way. BB is not going to bench the only two field players who are any good. I'm with the replace BB crowd but there's nothing he can do. We have complete crap on the bench so there's nothing to replace them.

You should replace BB immediately. :D

The real flaw in your argument is comparing the Gold Cup to the MLB playoffs/World Series. A much better comparison would be the World Baseball Classic...

To a NT like ours the GC should be big. It's not like we're bring a WC home anytime soon.

I'm willing to bet that players take the GC a lot more seriously than the WBC.

I didn't say it was a perfect comparison, but it's a hell of a lot better than comparing it to the playoffs/World Series.

A better comparison would probably be international basketball competitions. But even then the rest of the world who plays the sport care about it more than us.

I'm just saying the players should care about the GC because it's a big competition for our NT seeing as how we always turn down the copa America. I can see Dempsey maybe not taking it as serious cause he's in the epl (even though Fulhams biggest motivation is trying to qualify for the Euro cup) but what bigger honor is Landon gonna win?

I'm not overreacting because I don't see it as a huge deal. I just wish our two best players took this a little more seriously. But in their defense our b team did much better last GC and this was all pre-arranged so they obviously didn't think it would be as dire a situation as it is now when this was all planned.

Edit: just seen you follow Fulham. No offense with the above comment. Lol
