lets do remember that if there happened to be a natural disaster at any time in the tournament or they believed they may be one, they wouldnt host the games there

Why not? I heard it's a beautiful place. What are the odds of another natural disaster happening so quickly again?

A weak tournament? It's the Asian Cup man, yeah some Koreans don't care about it, but it's good experience for all the participating teams.

Not if it's in places like Lebanon.

On a serious note, I'm thinking about it. Flights to SE Asia are awfully cheap these days.

If Syria were playing and it was in a MidEastern cournty I'd be there in a jiff. But I doubt I can make to east Asia.

:D haha.. that is quite true though, our fans travel anywhere to watch games. in the 2006 WC when Korea vs France, i thought it was a Korean home game. at least from crowd support wise.

Beleive it or not, I saw most of the WC matches on a big screen in the WTC in Dubai. When Korea played France it was like I was in some Korean city. Amazing, much respect to your fans.

The problem with Asia is that its huge compared to Europe, and South America. Specially that Australlia is also in. I doubt I'd be willing to travel from western Asia to the the far east or the southern part of asia to watch the Asian Cup. Transportation through Asia isn't even as friendly as it is in Europe. Lots of different cultures and war.

If the tournament is held in western Asia yeah I'd travel there.

An interesting fact : even in South America it's difficult to see people traveling to watch Copa America. And even a country like Brasil who has 49% of the whole countinent have pitiful crowds when playing outside Brasil.

    Anyway,

I would travel to see Asian Cup without doubt.

This is total nonsense! I've been to Thailand, Malaysia, and indonesia many times and they are all very nice and safe places to travel with lots of interesting things to see and do. I would also love to go to Vietnam next as I've heard it's really nice there.

With that said... the Asian Cup is still seen as a bit of an undervalued tournament. Not only by the fans, but also by the players in the tournament itself. Last Asian Cup in China: Korea and Japan I believe sent mostly their under 23 squad to prepare them for the olympics. I believe that many Gulf countries also used the tournament as preparation for the Gulf Cup in Qatar and world cup qualifiers. The tournament is growing but still has some way to go before it gets to the stature of the European Championship, or even African Nations Cup... so, the answer is .. no... I would not travel to a country just to see the Asian Cup. However, if I happen to be in Vietnam, or one of the other three countries around this time then I would definitely try and catch a game.

I am half-thai and an american considering going to Thailand next year and would want to be there during the Asian Cup to see the Thai national team play. I support the US National Team in the World Cup so why not the Thai national team in the Asian Cup?
