Do you think that Etcheverry really deserved the All-Star MVP award? He scored one goal! We were impressed! NOT!!!! Landon actually worked for his last year. I think Joe had some excellent saves, and what did he get for it? A wet jersey, wet socks, and some wet shoes. He should have been the MVP!!!
The arguments are there, but think that if they gave the 2001 MVP to someone else last year instead of Landon the fans would be in cahoots over that decision. In this year's game, if they gave it to someone else other than Etcheverry, or maybe Pope, the fans in DC would have been livid. To them and maybe a few of us here, the selection is justified. Give the award to Joe and it would have to be shared with Tim Howard for the most part despite playing a very short half. Remember that Joe allowed 2 goals despite the exceptional performance. It's the goal scorers and to a lesser extent the playmakers that will get first consideration at an MVP award (re: Graziani for club). Goalkeepers and defenders would have to play very exceptionally well to get consideration. It's biased but homerism is going to come into consideration in an All-Star Game. Unless, someone does exceptionally well like Mamadou Diallo did in the All Star Game in Columbus in 2000 and then you have to take that into consideration. My take. Cheers!
Didn't Etcheverry score the goal that put the MLS All-Star team in the lead, and then assist on Ralston's game-winner? Doesn't that give him the award?
Thank you--many great players don't get even picked to play for the All Star Game. Thank you, again. Giving credit where credit is due.
Well I sure did see John Harkes grabbing that a$$!!! Nothing like a good game of grab a$$ after a soccer game!!!
I was at the game. so I didnt see his goal very well, but when they had it on sports center, it was a pretty sweet goal. Plus, they probably gave it to him because 1) he's from DC, and 2) they figure its his last all star game he will be able to play He's old enough to be breaking a hip now
