Whether he thinks he's doing it for a good cause or not, one would normally expect there to be a little more sense in a player who's won a fair play award.

And then ofcourse there's Alpay :D

Di Canio should star in Italian History X.

Di Canio should flat-out be fired by his club and banned from appearing in any FIFA-sanctioned functions for at least a year. Fans displaying any fascist paraphenalia should also be banned. Unac-fing-ceptable.

I realize that globalization is traumatic for many people, not least of all Europe, but falling back into a reactionary political stance that was responsible for the deaths of countless people and a world war is unacceptable.

Better yet, fire Di Canio and give his job to an Israeli player.

That would just be ignorant of us to make such an assumption.

It is considered customary to shoot entire families of people like Mussolini, no?

Berlusconi is an idiot. I'm not arguing that. But he's not a fascist. The truth is that Italy's fascist period doesn't have nearly the same opprobrium as Germany's Nazi period. But there's a reason for that. It wasn't as bad. While Mussolini was a "bad person" (tm) he was quite a ways away from Hitler. Its vastly disappointing that some still look up to his image, but its not all that surprising.

    See above.

 So Italians should shoot anyone associated with Mussolini? Yeah, that's showing them.

No, of course its not. To assume that Berlusconi has some sort of a connection to Lazio ultras is bizarre. Both he and the ultras would certainly disagree.

Except that there are black players who currently play for Lazio. So, uh, no.

That the ultras do, yes. If it was up to me, I'd ban it. Unfortunately, its not.

Given that he gets stick every time he does it, clearly its not.

The same ultras who're currently trying to boycott the owner and are publicly coming out against him? Yeah, they's real tight.

No. Football is an avenue for some retards to express their massive issues. Football isn't the problem, and if Italy were to suffer a ban to eliminate behavior like this, I'd be all for it.

Because it's partially a natural, human instinct for people to react on the defensive when they aren't familiar with other cultures. For generations they might have not been exposed to South Americans or Blacks living and interacting within their society, and for all they may have know, they've only seen the negative sides of Blacks and/or immigrants. SOOOOOOOOOOOO their instincts are to protest what they have been raised to believe, a xenophobia.

All humans are guilty of being a bit apprehensive when they aren't familiar with something. It's how they react to the unknown that defines their character. For example, if I am introduced to a trigonometry problem, chances are I may not answer it right aaway, why, because historically I have shown disdain for math. But now as a mature adult I'd at least show effort to maybe solve the trig problem, and even if I'm wrong at least I didn't panic, but rather became objective. Is that too deep an explanation?

this picture makes me wonder why I am still following Serie A. Instead of following beauty of the game on the field I'm following the game for a sociological/psychological reason first. Truly disturbing, and one can only hope the majority of Italy doesn't sympathize with Di Canio and his bringing politics into the game. These are Juve supporters

No shite? That makes me think a bit . . . I've always appreciated what DiCanio has done on the field, but the more I learn about him, the less I like him.

Juve is dead to me. It may be the ultras who hung the banner, but that Juventus let it stay there? Yuk.

So . . . is it wrong for me to generalize that all of the Italian clubs' "ultras" support either waaaay right or waaaay left, and that they are militant/violent?

If the truth be told, as a Juve supporter (albeit an American who has never been to a match) it is disturbing to me as well.

    Yes.

In Italy (and the rest of Europe) the majority of groups are apolitical.

Livorno and Lazio are the two most well known examples of the curva being actively political.

To answer the second part, any ultras group in Italy worthy of the name is "militant." There's a strict code on when and how to use violence.

The game was played in Rome.

Police entering the away sector would simply cause a riot.

So, the "code" determines when and where the "ultras" carry out violent acts in the name of Juve?
