Maybe I'll delete all rep given and put my faith in humanity's ability to learn from their mistakes? Oh yeah, just saw today's paper.
Well, you shouldn't believe any article that quotes Greg Andrulis. Reading Crew news these days can cause depression
That sort of reminds me of those movies where the villain wants to wipe out humanity and start over with his chosen few. Sort of like "Moonraker."
Wow, everyone is back to a single nipple. How refreshing - I remember when this whole reputation system started, we were all "on a distinguished road", the path to greatness. Something got lost in the way, as all those green nipples clouded our vision and we lost sight of what's important. We got caught up in racking up points, the reputation system became a monster, a monster unleashed inside each one of us. Thank you Huss. Who knew that innocence could be regained, that we could all return to Eden? Life is about second chances - what happened in the past is not important, it's what we do with this blessing in disguise that Huss has given us.
I vote for giving Bill Archer and Andy GK and Tom Flannigan as much negative rep as humanly possible.
so what happens if i make a brilliant post in the NSR forums? debating the merits of selecting keira knightley or kate beckinsale?
A lot of the people you're railing against make very valuable contributions to these boards in the form of ca$h. This whole "rep" argument (on both sides) is silly beyond belief, but to say someone who actually puts in money isn't contributing to the vitality of BigSoccer is a bit insulting. Whether they elect to spend all their time galavanting in FFA or checking out goalkeepers in the Nepali league on Yanks Abroad is their business. I bet more FFA users buy premium memberships than non-FFA users. There are plenty of folks that log in a lot of time on FFA that spend a lot of time on soccer boards making "valuable" contributions to discussion over there.
To play the devil's advocate, because I love advocatin' for the devil, MLS and USMNT forums are wastelands for actual soccer discussion - in fact, some of the best soccer discussions take place in the clique threads in FFA, be it Random Thoughs, BSSM etc etc. The main baords are too often driven by a troll or two spouting off some nonsense, and the 90% of BigSoccer telling them how idiotic they are (and I've been guilty of being in the 90% in the past). I already missed the good ol' days when reputation points meant nothing. I mean, what is reputation but a measure of popularity? Some people clearly take this whole affair too seriously, and serious is stupid. What's stupider is that the change appaeras to have come about because a couple of semi-pro whiners whined loudly enough.
Good point. Anyway, we all had fun, now it's time to leave the playground (school yard ?) and move on.
So along with moderating every post that occurs on big soccer you are now going to moderate every single reputation point given? You guys are gluttons for punishment. I'll always be a shining beacon of light.
With all of us barely able to dole out reputations, how are we going to get Bison1997 to superstar status now?
This is true. There are two concepts here that are sorely lacking - moderation and self-control. As someone who's been guilty of being in the 90% myself in the past ("Hi, I'm Kenn, and I'm a recovering newbiemorontrollsockpuppet basher"), I can say there'd be not much need to read cosmic significance into reputation if: (a) Moderators would just not let obvious trolls get away with it and; (b) Those of us with brains would show some restraint in lording that fact over the people who don't (I'm trying on this one, folks, I am). Where once my day wasn't complete without a trip to the crackhouse that is slapping someone down because they suggested pro/rel, or that they knew better than Arena, or to move San Jose, I've discovered I can get by without it. It's not easy, though.
