Maybe it's too early, but has anyone heard any speculation on who might be named to a Kerry cabinet if he should win? I haven't seen a lot of the big names in the Democratic Party out campaigning for him and I was curious.
As W recycled some of his Dad's guys, so too will Kerry -- IF he wins -- recycle some of Bubba's guys. Holbrooke will have some prominent role -- he's been shilling for Kerry all over the talk shows. Ditto Robert Rubin. If Kerry's in the White House, he'll be back for sure in some major capacity. The question is, will Gore be back? I bet not. It will also be interesting to see how much Kerry taps his Senate buds. Will, say, Biden or Christopher Dodd step over into the executive branch?
The Washington Post actually ran one today: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A52688-2004Oct21.html
Kerry Cabinet? Let's see: Ben Gay, Listerine, and Toothpaste all go in Kerry's Cabinet at his home! As far as the unlikely thing as a Kerry Presidency? The usual suspects: Mamma Teresa: Queen of Country/High Bitch/Head Witch Ted Kennedy: King In Waiting (Prince) Ted Bundy: Justice Department Prince F. U. Leahy: Senatorial Liasion To Kerry Court John Edwards: Court Trial Lawyer John Kerry: Court Jester All the kings horses and all the kings men, couldn't put kerry back together again!!
Notice that Gephardt has turned down the Labor job. F Kerry if he thinks Gephardt will take that puny bone.
I kind of thought the same thing when I saw that--seems almost like Kerry wanted to be able to say "I asked you to be a member of the cabinet" without offering anything that Gephardt would possibly take.
You know, that's not as ridiculous as it first sounds. I bet Bubba would make a hell of a Secretary of State.
But Bubba won't play well with John; not when he knows he's the better politician and the more popular figure. Its head of the UN or bust for him, at this point.
You are probably right. Bubba would make a good State - he's well liked around the world, and very charismatic - but he'd probably overshadow Kerry. Clinton as Secretary-General of the UN... now that would be funny. I can imagine all the frothing neo-cons having simultaneous heart-attacks upon hearing the news...
He wouldn't take it, not enough big-haired women overseas. In all seriousness, I don't think he would be a good SecState- wouldn't take orders well. In addition, I think his interests are more domestic than international.
It's too early to discuss this, at least publicly. Let's get to Wednesday first and then let people fight over the spoils.
. . .sounding like a Red Sox fan in the bottom of the 8th in Game Four refusing to pull the bottle of champagne from the fridge. . . OK, maybe more like a Red Sox fan in Game 6 of the ALCS.
The problem with having Clinton as part of a Kerry Administration is that he, well, is Bill Clinton. The guy is the greatest politician of his generation and would be a great advisor and envoy, but having him too close to the Administration would overshadow everybody else who is a part of it.
You guys are crazy to be talking about this. This is like those threads that crop up during WCQ talking about who we want to play in the WC. It's just bad karma. Heck, I'm even scared to just feel optimistic about Tuesday...little less talk about it. We still need to pick up a late goal and Cobi needs to kill this one in the corners before thinking about the next game.
