"If the fans could treat [Agoos] like they treated Landon, that would be great for us," the Canadian international said with a grin. "Nothing against Agoos, but he's a former [San Jose] player. [The fans] should pick a guy every game." - Dwayne De Rosario - http://sanjose.earthquakes.mlsnet.c...ent_id=37610&vkey=news_sje&fext=.jsp&team=sje Why reserve all the hate for Donovan? While we all hate the Galaxatives with a little extra oomph, each team in the league has a player we should pick on. 1. To help to Quakes & 2. Because it’s part of the fun. So I went through all of the team rosters and have found a player from each team for all of us to pick on. I have a couple of blank sheets left over from the Galaxy game and am going to try and devote time to making a sign for each of our enemies. This is what I have so far: Chicago - Zach Thornton (for the forearm shiver to Jamil last year – and for just being a d**k in general) Chivas USA - Thiago Martins (I just don’t like him) Columbus - Chad Marshall (Really couldn’t see anyone else to hate there) Colorado - Mike Petke (Never liked him) FC Dalas - Carlos Ruiz (It’s still fun to hate him) DC United - Dema Kovalenko (Do you really need a reason to hate him other then the fact he exists) Kansas City - Jack Jewsbury (for knocking the Quakes out of the playoffs last year) Galaxy - Landon Donovan (Because no one should like teddy bears that much) Metrostars - Jeff Agoos (He bailed on us just like Donovan) New England - Joe Franchino (Never liked him) Real Salt Lake - Clint Mathis (His own fans don’t even like him – why should we?) So let me know what you think of the idea and if there are any players I am missing or should be replaced on the list. Go Quakes!
New York surely has some other unlikable guys: Razov? Suarez?? Towel boy Guevara??? Lalas???? I just couldn't get all worked up about Goos because, in all honesty, I think he helped us more by leaving. He's not exactly in his prime. It's one thing for an over-the-hill guy to leave. Even Willie Mays left the Giants, and Hank Aaron left the Braves. With Donovan otoh, the assumption was that his leaving would hurt us. It's just so ironic and beautiful that his leaving has really sparked a Quakes renaissance.
Well, Metrostars has got the reputation of being a retiring community for 35+ years old playes... Matthaus Djorkaeff Meola Agoos just followed the suit
Or you could just choose a player each week to be Landon. Imagine how unnerving it would be to be, say, Andy Williams and have everyone yelling "Landon, you suck!" and booing everytime you touch the ball. The confusion alone would throw him off of his game.
Sorry t interupt, but you should check out a recent LA Times article on Thiago. The guy was homeless, living on the beaches of Santa Barbara and didn't speak a word of English or Spanish (he's Brazilian) when he played a pick up game w/ a bunch of Latinos. They invited him to join a weekend rec league, where he played vs. the Santa Barbara City College coach, who invited him to play for SBCC and later join him at UCSB and he eventually landed at Chivas USA. It's an amazing read. Thiago Martins
Yes, for the Metros it's gotta be that little punk!! And the same goes for the next team he's on! And the one after that, and so forth until every team has had it's share of the Suarez hate.... Shouldn't take to long to get through the league....
I think DeRo missed the point just a bit. The boos for PrimaDonovan were'nt just because he's an ex-Quake, but for the slimy way he left. Agoos was very up front with the FO asking to go back to the east coast. He got the reception the former captain deserved. He didn't turn tail and slink off to LA. He stood up and asked for what he wanted and didn't stoop to subterfuge. That said, I think the "home town boy" Ryan Suarez got the appropriate greeting to suit DeRo's needs. Razov? He's harmless (proven in MLS Cup 2003, reaffirmed Saturday night).
Home town boy, my ass! He lists Roseville as his hometown on MLS. And they can have them. I'm sorry for everyone in Roseville. But he's no hometown boy of ours! Punk!
Agoos got his acknowledgment of cheers before the game... after that, he's fair game... ---- Really, there's someone on the other team that will irk the fans. It's endless. Anyone on LA, Carlos Ruiz, Guevara, Hand of Bob (who's now coach), and that list goes on! Can't start to hate Chivas just yet, even though they too play in LA.
Not sure abotu players, but I sure hate some of their fans - those of them who don't raise from their seats when US National Anthem is playing.
I don't think that is really reserved for Chivas fans. I see it way too much at Crew games also. There are a lot of American fans who, for whatever reason, don't stop and acknowledge that the anthem is being played.
That where I ran into a little of a problem - certain teams like the Galaxatives, FC Moos and the Metrofallenstars have hoarded a lot of the players to hate while Chivas and Columbus don't really have any. So I've replaced Agoos with Suarez/Guevara (or Suarvara if you like). Columbus up next any ideas as to who to hate there for any reason besides Marshall?
At the tailgate Saturday, Jay and I were talking about a scarf with "San Jose's Best 11" on one side, and our "11 Most Wanted (Hated)" on the flip side. Where's Diego Serna when we need him? Mike
