It immediately makes our starting lineup obsolete. Playing nine behind the ball when down 1-0 isn't going to help much.
I know I checked multiple times and it was 7. I made my plans around 7 this evening. My television guide has the correct 8 though.
I always forget how much I hate soccer at Yankee Stadium... It's more unwatchable than the usual DC games...
When you set out to absorb all the pressure, you have to play completely clean. Two PKs thus far. 1-2.
He is faking it because he is in the midst of a disaster. He took notes from a prominent person im his same town last week. (Ducks)
8-1 in two games. 13-3 in this "grouping" of games (or whatever we're calling it -- "phase"?). Hard to hold this one against Olsen on some level -- I mean that central D pairing is not good, and I'm not sure any team in the league with its 3rd and 4th string centerbacks is going to be leak-proof. This really looked like a team beaten down by injuries. But after getting the stuffing beat out of us against Atlanta, even with the injury problems, I don't like coming out in a shell. Ben mentioned that the team was "delicate" or something similar -- then let them play! Show some confidence in them! When you put nine behind the ball, you're telling your team "I don't trust you to be able to do anything but get in the way." Might he be right about that with a depleted roster? Maybe. But we've got seven games left -- and Arriola is not, apparently, walking back through that door. At least ********ing go out swinging, and see what you've got.
Higuain scores! (Oh, wait---it was brother Gonzalo, not our guy). We had all of 28% possession and nine shots vs. their 31.
We talk a lot about how this team sucks and how Olsen sucks and the players suck and there is no hope, but we really could write a novel on all of the "gifts" we've given teams. How many times we've helped opponents end record losing streaks, record goal draughts, losing at home openers, losing at new stadium openings. We're Santa Claus if Santa were a shitty soccer team that never gets good.
Both PKs against United were crap calls. Gressel's contact was not enough to take down the the NYCFC attacker it was a dive. Then on the slide handball call where the hell is he supposed to put his arm when he slides. His arm was in a natural position. That one however I blame on the assessors who have wrongly told the refs to make that call. There is no support within the laws, only the opinions of these jerks. So NYCFC should have still won but 2-1 not 4-1.
This is just a woeful group. My daughter and I talked after the game and tried to "evaluate" the performance and potential of the players who saw the field: Hamid - lock starter Fisher - his knee injury robbed him of his explosive speed - he's now a roster guy useful for subs and spot starts at best. Pines - starter material, needs experience and coaching Sjoeberg - brought in for roster depth, gone at the end of the season Canouse - lock starter played out of position Gressel - roster material, sub or spot starter, not worth the 700K DCU paying him Paredes - he's only 17 but is regressing. Too many minutes and too much "coaching" from Olsen and Ashton Nyeman - he shouldn't be playing against grown men. He needs to bulk up and play at Loudoun for a few years, the game is too fast for him right now Moreno - this year he's simply "a guy" he's shown better in the past, but right now if he's gone next year, so what? Yow - the best of the youngsters and also the oldest. Reminds me of a raw Arriola, if he develops in that vein - great Kamara - a bust and ill suited to play in BennyBall Subs: Asad - oof, does he have any speed at all? Sorga - a useful roster guy, sub and spot starter Rivas - much better suited to playing as a lone forward in BennyBall. Has the size for holdup play. On a better team, he's the backup forward -- maybe Mora - solid player - lock starter O-A - a roster guy, sub and spot starter really not good enough to be a lock starter If this collection of players wins another game this year, I'll be surprised.
Agree with much of this, but .... Pines was ball watching on goal #3 and you can't do that in the box when you know runners are coming. Paredes might have gone too many minutes since the restart, but he'll be fine where ever he plays/goes He's got immense foot speed and quickness. Neyman needs time at a lower level, he was missing for long swaths of the game Sorga doesn't seem to remember how to score goals or MLS is a shit ton better than the Estonian whatever league Gressell continues to be played out of position and in a system that doesn't fit his strengths which will evenutally convert to a bust if it continues. Fisher needs more time to get back from his injury. It takes a year+, its barely been a year since he got back on the field. That said, at $75k he's returning good value.
DCU has certainly gotten more value out of the deckchair than out of the non-deckchair. On the revisionism front, my opinion is changing about Pajoy.
