Ashton's incessant "just let the guys have fun" jibe is really getting to me. Worst DC United coach ever. Postgame: "It’s a fun night for the team, it’s a fun night for the fans...and to score a couple of goals and keep it tight for periods of time I think is really, really encouraging.” It isn't shameful to lose a game like this 6-2, but a) don't tell me that I had "fun" as a fan when the team I support lost by 4 goals; and b) if you can maybe show you care about having the team "keep it tight" for the whole game, they might start to show a little more cohesiveness and grit in all competitions. This stuff really does carry over, even with Rooney set to take charge. Losing to Bayern wasn't inevitable. I don't rate them any more highly than the Real Madrid team we drew with 1-1 under Nowak. Our mentality then was that we weren't going to half-ass it, and we didn't. Charlotte beat Chelsea tonight, and Minnesota beat Everton (who are not Bayern Munich or Chelsea) by four goals. Either we've stopped caring about winning, or we've decided it can wait until the new coach takes over.
Pretty consistent with our season so far. Some guys showed up, some didn’t, others just aren’t good enough. I’ll be pleased to see the back of Ashton, but I have no problems with his comments after this one. Bayern came to play and are just levels above, not sure anyone could expect better, we’re not very good.
I would hope so considering it was theater more than a game but maybe it proves inspirational to the player s
Bayern pressed full field all game. Fortunately, their second half subs weren’t as good at it so DC got a little purchase and scored a couple goals. I thought it was a hell of a test and should help the players proceed in league.
I enjoyed the game far more than I expected to. When I went inside for the start, I said to my wife "well, time to go watch my team get shellacked again, but at least this time it will be to someone who actually should be shellacking them, unlike the last few months".
Happy to see a good showing by TkuD in front of Rooney. And Durkin's good passing was noteworthy, also. However, while the club is bolstering the midfield, our defense is a shambles. It's not just the back four but the midfield as well. It's time to deal with that weakness.
How about the Skage?! The Skagemeister?! Seriously I had no idea who this was even after Dave told me. I had no idea we kept anyone beyond Djeffal from the draft.
I told Ted's dad last night what a way to make a splash by scoring your 1st goal against Bayern and he said, he always was a showoff.
