In Memory of David Vaughan David Vaughan was a loyal College of Charleston soccer fan. His support of Cougar soccer began right after Hurricane Hugo in 1989. He built and erected the flag pole on the press box at the old Remley’s Point Complex. David hung the United States flag at every home game. David and his wife Ellen developed a special friendship with Coach Ralph Lundy and his family and Coach Ralph Poison and his family, as well as a strong family committment to the Charleston players. David accompanied the Cougar men’s soccer team to Holland on their tour in 1994. He was always sharing with the young players his fighting attitude and spirit. David’s nephew, Scott Clayton, attended the College of Charleston from 1993 to 1996, where he was an integral part of the Cougar soccer team. David exemplified all the qualities of a true friend. In the Spring of 2002, David received the Inaugural “David Vaughan - Friend of the Cougar” award. The award is given annually to someone that best exemplifies David’s giving attitude.
