how's your rebuild/transition going? You missed out on the playoff because of GD. Think of this we could have been in the same group as it was between Sweden, Italy and the Netherlands. Your old guard is gone now too.

and we will be rivals once again in October.:D

  2. Ups (3-0 vs Portugal) and downs (losses against Italy and England). Seems like Depay is getting on his feet again since his dismal performance in the epl, defensively were super (actually were overloaded with top central defenders, would gladly swap one of those for a top striker), midfield not real class available.
So if Low plays the kids from the confed cup were going to be blasted away or our defense puts an end to the AngloSaxon bullshit Dutch cannot defend.

A mixed list of player options that I'd expect and/or like to see be in NT consideration for 2020:

GK: ter Stegen, Neuer, Leno, Trapp, Karius

Central Defence: Süle, Rüdiger, Ginter, Stark, Anton, Baumgartl, Kehrer, Torunarigha, Uduokhai

Fullbacks: Kimmich, Plattenhardt, Klostermann, Halstenberg, Max, Henrichs, Weiser, Schulz

Central/Defensive midfield: Kroos, Emre Can, Gündogan, Goretzka, Dahoud, Geiger, Meyer, M. Eggestein, Serdar, Neuhaus

Attacking midfield/Winger: Reus, Müller, Sane, Brandt, Draxler, Gnabry, Demirbay, Philipp, Wolf, Havertz, Amiri, Barkok

Striker: Werner, Selke, Uth, Füllkrug, Volland, Ginczek

I would add at the top of my head, could be forgetting guys.
    Defense: Tah, Kempf
Fullbacks: Klunter, Toljan (if he gets it together)
    midfield: Maier, Weigl
AM/Wingers:Leaving door open for Gotze and Schurrle and even Younes depending on their future forms.
Striker: Stindl, Ducksch (depends on how he does in 1BL)

outsiders: Petersen,Bellarabi, Thommy, Demme, Gross and Schindler

of course during next season there will be new breakout players throughout Europe that could also be in consideration for the NT, once its starts again. Guys like Mukhtar for example will never be considered while playing in Denmark.

and every year the list will get bigger the more guys are done in the U19 permanently. Next season we will start seeing the 99 group. In 2019-2020, we will start seeing the 00 group breakthrough.

If Plattenhardt moves then it could also open up the LB at Hertha for Mittelstädt.

I'm curious to watch how Linton Maina does, hopefully he has a breakthrough season.

Götze showed some glimpses of positive form last season but needs to demonstrate a lot more consistency to be a contender again.

IMO Schürrle needs to take a major pay cut and play for a smaller club. Especially with Wolf at Dortmund now. Maybe return to his roots at Mainz. Other clubs like Frankfurt, Stuttgart, or Hannover could use someone like him.

I actually want Plattenhardt to move so that Mittlestadt can take over.

Gotze, Dahoud, Weigl, Toljan (if he stays) are all guys who will benefit more from Favre over Bosz and Stoger.

Agreed with Schurrle, never liked any of his big moves. He works better in smaller clubs than Dortmund or Chelsea and less pressure too.

and I just realized that Younes might be taken off any list.....
Genoa President Enrico Preziosi claims Amin Younes, who joins Napoli on July 1, “will be out for seven or eight months” with an injury.
    https://www.football-italia.net/123687/preziosi-‘younes-out-months’

not sure what to say about him. Barely played all season and now next season he will be out 7-8 months. That's 2 years of barely any football.

Akpoguma has benefitted from Nagelsmann's guidance and looks to have become a solid defender for Hoffenheim towards the end of last season. At age 23 I think he's a player who could a contender and should be at least cap tied for future consideration. I'd also add in Vogt as well to the list.

Maybe Ridle Baku at Mainz. He began his debut few games last season on such an incredible start.

Also wonder about the player situations at Wolfsburg. Maxi Arnold seems to have faded a bit in recent seasons. Gerhardt returns from injury but can he bounce back to the form he showed at Köln before making the move. And whether or not Gian-Luca Itter can make strides.

doesn't help that Nigeria are after Akpoguma, Torunarigha and Uduokhai. But all 3 as of now prefer Germany and all 3 even turned down chances to play at the WC for Nigeria. But things can easily change in the future.

Baku was even outshining Naby Keita in his game vs RB Leipzig. Was so influential in helping Mainz avoid relegation that he got upped to the 1st team for next season and with Serdar gone, that's an open spot.

Another reserve player who impressed in 1BL last season, Jaeckel from Wolfburg II, although not sure if he's upped to the main team or back to the reserves. Only got a chance because of the defensive injury crisis at the time. I have barely seen anything about Wolfburg that wasn't about their striker situation.

in terms of consideration there is also Bittencourt and Grifo who both joined Hoff. Who knows maybe they will reach the next level with Nagelsmann. I also remember that Bittencourt is keen on making it to the German NT. And when not injured he does show potential.

what other countries are currently in the rebuild phase? Germany, Italy, Netherlands......Argentina also seems headed there.

@Epitome990 No Plattenhardt please. Average defensively, adds nothing going ahead and out of position/ sluggish always.

Spain too. They are probably going to have to replace Pique, Ramos, Iniesta at a minimum before the next WC.

not even, I believe all 3 of those guys said that they will retire after the WC from the NT. So rebuild for them could be for EC2020 as well.

this WC has shown the death of tiki-taka, endless possession football that goes nowhere (inefficient pressing). Also that composed defense and fast teams are more likely to fair well.

and we bombed on all of that, lol.

Well I kinda noticed that France conceded 3 goals and Argentina 4 goals in a game where they didn’t counter each other to death as we saw South Korea, Sweden and Mexico do to Germany

And Germany only somehow conceded 4 goals in 3 games
Which shows that the defenders clearly weren’t the problem
I mean, the defense line consisted of Bayern players Kimmich, Neuer, Hummels, Boateng/Süle who were fantastic Real Madrid in the CL semi final where Bayern should’ve advanced

The non exisisting awful midfield ruined Germany, not the defenders

Edit: Neuer didn’t play ofc but he’s on another lvl than Ulreich who did that awful mistake...

thing is can't say playing 2-0-8 means composed defense that's the opposite of a composed defense. The issue was Low and his dumb formations and player choices.

Argentina and France have weak defenses at this WC.

At the end of the day our midfield is really poor. I don’t see enough quality in Gundogan and Kroos to lead a championship winning side. They are two slow and 1 dimensional.

Where are the WC and athletic midfielders? Our game will continue to be slow and ponderous if we are going to rely on the likes of Kroos, Khedira, Gundogan etc.

I'm fine if we keep Kroos but his partners in midfield can't be pedestrian like him. What we really missed is someone like Basti.

also we will keep struggling if our wingers are also slow and can't dribble. Ozil for example had back problems and injury issues leading up to the WC which doesn't help at all.

I hope Rudy can find some more match time for Bayern next season
But Imm afraid Martinez will stay as the first choice

I’d like to see Leon and Gnabry integrate well in the team as I have some big hopes for Leon the next tourneys

Yes France sucks defensively but I hope they win

so many teams in KO rounds are avg at the best which makes the games so boring

I think Loew needs to go. He simply is a bad judge of players. He thought Goetze was the savior and stuck with him as a starter at the false 9 when everyone saw that was not going to work and he continued to try to force it. He also did the same with Draxler... Sane would have made the WC with any other team.

Loew never seemed able to settle on a formation, he was experimenting with players and formations during qualifications, friendlies, and tournaments. He repeats the same mistakes. During the last Euro, when German were struggling, he said we are missing the players that can make a difference individually. Post EC, he started looking at those players, used them but then decided against bringing any....

If we are honest, WC2010 aside (when Germany were underdogs) and the last ConFed, Germany had struggles at each major tournament, including the WC2014.
