Dante Polvara Midfielder Currently at Georgetown & eligible as a homegrown for NYCFC. Wouldn't be surprised if NYCFC signs (or trades) junior homegrown left back Will Sands (James's brother) and perhaps does the same with junior HG attacker Dante Polvara, who is looking overseas. Columbus Crew seems likely to add HG midfielder Sean Zawadzki, a Hoyas senior.— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) January 6, 2022 Expecting NYCFC to trade Will Sands' MLS homegrown rights to Columbus Crew, which has also been working to finalize signing of its own homegrown, Georgetown's Sean Zawadzki. NYC's Dante Polvara close to signing overseas (Scotland?).— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) January 7, 2022 College profile: https://guhoyas.com/sports/mens-soccer/roster/dante-polvara/12791
Aberdeen is the likely destination: Polvara to Aberdeen looking more and more likely. (NYCFC would retain his MLS rights.)— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) January 7, 2022
He wins the Hermann Award: BREAKING: Junior midfielder Dante Polvara was named the winner of the MAC Hermann Award, given to the most outstanding player in college soccer. He is the first Hoya to be given this honor.— Voice Sports (@GUVoiceSports) January 8, 2022
Club announces the signing: 🆕 | We are delighted to announce the signing of Elite American College Player, Dante Polvara on a two and a half year deal.🇺🇸 Welcome to The Dons, Dante!— Aberdeen FC (@AberdeenFC) January 8, 2022 @TheFalseNine @dark knight @bungadiri Let's update the title: Dante Polvara at Aberdeen (Scotland)
Listed at 6'4", 180 lbs in his Georgetown profile. 7 goals and 6 assists in 22 games this season, following up 8g/2a in 14 games last season. Interesting move.
Polvara is a behemoth central midfielder. He’s stands 6’4” and close to 200 lbs. Rest assured he’s not going to be shoved around in Scotland. It would not surprise me to see Polvara, once acclimated, start getting minutes. He’s huge but he plays graceful and is very good with the ball at his feet. Plays fairly intelligently, too. If he gets a crack at goal from 25+ yards, Polvara will put in on frame. A thunderous shot. He’ll be an interesting prospect to follow. I think NYCFC missed out by not coming to terms on a HG deal.
I do wonder what will happen with the WP situation. I know Scotland is an easier hurdle to clear compared to England, but you have to think of the Andrew Gutman & Manny Perez situation (obviously before Brexit). He has no professional experience plus a Hermann Award, but not much else to convince a panel that he requires an exception. The plan may be to loan him in Europe (assuming he has an EU passport) or the US.

Out injured: American Dante Polvara, the NYCFC academy grad and Hermann Trophy winner who signed with Aberdeen FC, will miss 4-6 weeks after undergoing surgery (undisclosed issue). He was dealing with it at Georgetown but didn't miss extended time. Aberdeen wanted to sort it out now.— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) January 28, 2022

https://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/f...ican-college-football-to-scottish-top-flight/ January signing Dante Polvara proved he can make the step up from American college football to the Premiership. The midfielder was certainly not out of his depth at Easter Road and delivered a solid first start with plenty of promise.
