Starting in the Championship is better than riding pine in the Bundesliga if he wants to make the WC roster.

He's just being sent by Klinsmann to spy on the Jamaican team.

Weird. Wouldn't it have been better to try to earn a spot at Hoffenheim?

I imagine one of the reasons he accepted the "step down" was precisely because he felt he wouldn't be winning a spot, and since its a WC year he wanted to go somewhere that he thought he could win a starting position. Don't blame him, if he plays often and plays well he'll be in decent position to make the 23.

Test yourself. Hey, if the Championship is good enough for Jon Spector...

Reading were horrible last season. Are they flipping their roster?

No matter how many years of knowing better, and I still never pronounce it mentally as Reding...

Nice move for Williams. He's still young(ish). Hope starting all year in the Championship can improve his game. I'm still convinced he can be an upgrade over Edu.

We should be getting all our RMs from the championship!

    Kidding, of course....

Your childhood must have been sadly devoid of Monopoly games. :)

Yeah, with the big tournament coming, playing definitely beats out sitting, even if it is in a second division.

Championship is no slouch. He will get the physicality and pace of the premier league without some of the higher skill players. For a #6 that isn't as bad as some of the other positions.

Some talk that they could very well be better this year in the championship than they were last year in the EPL. They're also heavy favorites for promotion if you look at the betting odds.

I remain high on Williams long-term. I saw enough good things in his national team performances in a defensive midfield role that I think he could play a key role for the team in either 2014 or 2018.

I feel the same about this move as I do for all US players: I hope it improves his play and keeps him sharp for the national team. Playing is always better than riding the bench.

Yep. I like this move long term. Hopefully Reading, Bolton, and Forest all get promoted next year. Or Birmingham.

Will be good to see him once he gets minutes. I'm not comfortable with players getting more time with the national team than their club team. (Talking to you Brek Shea.)

I think Edu still better than Williams but not by much. With the resurgence of our 2 CM and our wing play I just don't think JK is going to go with a dedicated DM for the WC, there again Edu has the upper hand.

That's funny. I played plenty of Monopoly, and we always pronounced it "Reading" Railroad (not "Redding" Railroad). I guess we were wrong?
