Well their head coach is excellent at two things. Taking teams from Elitettan to Damallsvenskan and teams from Damallsvenskan to Elitettan. He has done either every year for four years now, if Uppsala get demoted.

2017 qualified IFK Kalmar for Damallsvenskan

2018 IFK Kalmar placed last in Damallsvenskan

2019 qualified Uppsala IK for Damallsvenskan

2020 Uppsala IK placed last in Damallsvenskan (probably)

So I hope Uppsala do not make the same misstake as Kalamr and keep him for 2021, then after he qualified Uppsala for Damallsvenskan again it is time to fire him. :)

Extreme wintersports in the north on Sunday, but what an important win for the home side:

    Video highlights here
    Piteå 1 - 0 Eskilstuna - (Madelen Janogy 45')
    + Match report: SVT (Archive)

So, that changes things again from last week:
Umeå v Kristianstad was postponed due to the snökaos (snow chaos), and so, Umeå drop into the danger zone on goal difference. With 3 full matchdays to go, the relegation battle really couldn't be any tighter:

And that's before we even get to the top teams, who again had surprise results this weekend - it's like two leagues for the price of one at the moment. Last week unfortunately there were cases of Covid-19 among FC Rosengård staff(?) which overshadowed the build-up to the Kristianstad game.

We've made much of Piteå's location, but this week's snow was not the most unusual case in Sweden...
❅❅❆❆❄❄ ...you have to go back a while, though.

Weeks 19 + 20 had some more surprise results to set up the final fortnight:

Last year, this was the scoreline that won them the title, but now Rosengård's fourth unsuccessful match is probably the one that's ended their title hopes. Vittsjö have muscled their way back up to 5th-place.

    Highlights:
    Vittsjö [blue] 1 - 1 Rosengård [pink]
    Mie Leth Jans 54' / Anvegård 3'p
    - Match report: SVT

FCR did beat the now-relegated Uppsala, 5-1 - their first win since September.
The league leaders couldn't take full advantage, but they still have their four-point margin:

    Gothenburg 1 - 1 KIF Örebro
    Hammarlund 29' / Farquharson 79'

They'll win the title if they can beat either Kristianstad (away, today) or their final opponent Vittsjö (home, Sun 15 Nov). Rosengård are up against two relegation battlers, Piteå and Växjö.

Another big result for Piteå that may save them in the division, with the Finnish Koivisto's goal - and it virtually ensures that Kristianstad will enter the Champions League:

    Linköping 1 - 2 Piteå
Sofia Wännerdahl og 65' / Fernanda Da Silva 69', Vilma Koivisto 93'

    - Match report: SVT

    2 games to go:

On Sunday (week 21), it's something like a relegation play-off - Umeå v Djurgården, and a similar feeling at Saturday's Växjö v Eskilstuna.
As mentioned, Gothenburg can seal the title today, and Kristianstad would provisionally rise to 2nd with a win at Uppsala, because Rosengård are playing on Sunday, away at Piteå.

Linköping will have a new manager next season, Andrée Jeglertz, when he returns from Canada: https://www.vavel.com/en/football/2...-to-coach-linkopings-fc-from-2021-season.html

    It's silly hat time, therefore

    [IMG] they are champions

And with some distance to spare...

    Linköping 0 - 7 Gothenburg
    Hammarlund 11', Angeldahl 29', Bøe Risa 50', 57', Kuikka 59', Emma Koivisto 76', Blackstenius 80'
    https://www.obosdamallsvenskan.se/play/video/102171
    [IMG]
    - Match report: SVT

With the heavy defeat, there are also questions about Linköping's announcement this week: "Strange timing to announce a change of coach considering what was at stake. It is obvious that it has affected them."

▶ The other results and highlights from Saturday - Växjö can't be relegated now, reaching 7th place with their 7th win; and Kristianstad are in 2nd spot currently, awaiting Rosengård's result. There was a hat-trick by Australia's Emily Gielnik when Vittsjö (5th) beat Örebro (6th), 4-0.

    Växjö 2 - 0 Eskilstuna
    Amanda Johnsson-Haahr 59', Nellie Karlsson 84'
    https://www.obosdamallsvenskan.se/play/video/102153 / Match report

    Uppsala 1 - 4 Kristianstad
    Nicole Odelberg-Modin 81' / Eveliina Summanen 40', Therese Åsland 45', Anna Welin 51', 56'

An incredible final day of the season, week 22:

    - Umeå win, but they're relegated.
    - Piteå had lost to Rosengård 3-0 a week earlier, but they got one more crucial victory and survived in the league. Piteå won 1-0 away to Örebro on a long-shot from Julia Karlernäs.
    - Djurgården (who drew 0-0 at Umeå the week before) survived by beating Uppsala 2-0, with goals by Rachel Bloznalis and Linda Motlhalo.
    - Eskilstuna lost but survived on goal-difference, and their opponents are relegated in 11th place:

    Eskilstuna 0 - 1 Umeå - (Eva Nyström 5')
    www.obosdamallsvenskan.se/play/video/103099
    [IMG]

    - Rosengård's season ends on an appropriately sour note. They lost 1-0 at home to Växjö, who gained three places to finish 6th, with a penalty by Signe Andersen.
    - Kristianstad couldn't capitalize and stayed 3rd with their loss. (I'm assuming 2nd place gets some small advantage over 3rd when they both enter the Non-Champions League?)
    - The 4th-place Linköping got over their bad defeat and won at Kristianstad 2-1, two goals by the loanee U.S. striker Rachel Hill.
    - The new champions Gothenburg won 3-1 v Vittsjö, as Stina Blackstenius scored twice.

    The final table for 2020:

Top scorer was Anna Anvegård with 16 goals for Rosengård, but by the league's method of goals + assists, their top player was Pauline Hammarlund (12+5) for Gothenburg. Eskilstuna survived by scoring ten goals more than near rivals in the league this year, mainly thanks to third-placed Loreta Kullashi (11 goals, 4 assists) and tenth-placed Felicia Rogic (11 goals).

Elittetan: AIK and Hammarby will return to the top division, both quite a way ahead this year. Adelisa Grabus scored 25 for AIK. Former Damallsvenskan club Kvarnsveden are relegated to Division 1 (division 3).

Expanding the league? In the news in recent days, the Swedish FA will vote on a proposal to add two more clubs to Damallsvenskan, which I believe would be the first change from 12 teams since the division started in 1988.
Do you think they should expand? We've just seen a season where many clubs were bunched together in points, as in 2018, but this year was also a hard campaign in an unnaturally short timeline. Would a 14-club league be the answer? If it's approved, this would begin in season 2022. https://www.svt.se/sport/fotboll/forslaget-damallsvenskan-utokas-med-tva-lag-2022

Yes. Main sponsor Kopparberg is shutting down the funding. More on this here.

I don't know if it's possible, but if IFK Göteborg are taking over Kopparberg's Damallsvenskan licence, it's pretty much a big upgrade. IFK are a big club with proud traditions in the men's European competitions, although nowadays they are a shadow of their former glory - also on the domestic scene.

It is not. They may have succeded doing that if they merged, but even so it isn't easy to get the federations to approve it.
The offer now goes to the 3rd team in tier 2 (1st and 2nd was promoted), and so on if they decline.

More or less correct, their junior teams will continue under the same club so it will still exist. They will however end their Elite/senior team so in the most important ways they will no longer be with us.

Swedish FA have found from their own rules what happens to the Damallsvenskan spot (the team most close to get promoted get it, Morön from Skellefteå).
Swedish FA are now reading trough UEFA's rules to find out what happens with the UEFAWCL spot, they may have to call UEFA about that if they can't find the rule for that.

The utter bastards! How could they sign a player just three days before they made the decision?! And now a large chunk of the Swedish national team* finds itself without a club. 2020 just keeps on dishing up the mayhem.

    * Jennifer Falk, Emma Kullberg, Julia Zigiotti Olme, Filippa Angeldahl, Julia Roddar, Filippa Curmark, Stina Blackstenius, Pauline Hammarlund, Elin Rubensson (who also happens to be on parental leave).

Sad to see that after helping the club win a championship. Imagine doing that to them had they continued on in Champions League!

    Wonder
if they folded the moment the sponsorship pulled out hence they didn’t expect that. Why sign a player in few days prior? Or maybe they hoped the sponsor will stay.

This isn't just big news, it's the biggest news. It's even more of a scandal than Tyresö going bankrupt. And yet SvFF, the Swedish football association, is nowhere to be see.

One thing that could save the team is a merger/takeover. According to an article just published in Gothenburg newspaper GP, a local team (Örgryte) is having an emergency board meeting this evening to discuss the option. The deadline for a merger agreement is December 31 and a deal would have to be appproved by the boards of both teams. I can't see that happening.

Örgryte said (as expected) that there was not enough time to investigate this option. The unexpected turn is that a solution involving new sponsors might save the day at the last minute. Players and other staff have been called to a meeting at 10 am tomorrow. A text message from coach to players is reported to say "It wil alll work out". I hope someone burns in hell for this, no matter what. Two ********ing days before the deadline, the board says "Naaaaaaah, not feeling it. Let's disband the team." That is NOT the Swedish way.

Curiouser and curiouser: it's reprieve time. No idea WTF is going on, but the Göteborg board has issued a statement saying that the show will go on. There is also a mention of "surprise at the great interest in finding a solution ". I can't believe the drama! As the Swedes say, there's a dog buried somewhere.

In short: The show goes on. Göteborg FC will compete in Damallsvenskan 2021 and the Champions League next season. They will negotiate with a couple of unnamed local clubs who have showed interest in taking over. A solution will be presented some time before spring.
