It doesn’t help either that both Masopust (he usually does this) and Sevcik (understandable) are drifting centrally and creating so much space for Denmark to counter attack.
Our buildup play continues to be a glaring issue. Neither Kalas and Celustka are ball playing defenders, while our midfield struggles to play the ball into the feet of Schick where he’s most dangerous. This is admittedly where we miss Kudela the most. Also the reason why I’d like Krejci to eventually play in defence for us.
Jankto for Holes and Krmencik for Masopust... I guess Sevcik now on the right and Jankto left in a 4-4-2? Not sure Barak can cover defense part of that.
Krmencik is giving Schick a lot more space. If we stay on the front foot this is a great sub, but defensively their are a lot of holes (no pun intended).
We need another midfield player. We’re way too urgent now and acting as if it’s the dying seconds of the game. You can’t expect Soucek to create everything.
As much as he created some space the first 5 minutes, the last 5 all his weaknesses have shown up. I also think Denmark are realizing they should slow the match down.
Crazy to think that 4-0 loss to Italy was a month ago tomorrow… Didn’t think I’d be watching the national team in July, but here we are. It was a fun ride and I’m satisfied with a quarter finals exit. Better than most would’ve expected of us. I maintain that our peak will be between 2022-2024 with this group once we integrate a few of our exciting young talents, so can definitely build from this. Congrats to Denmark. A very good side that I’ll be cheering for the rest of the way.
That was probably Silhavy's best managing within a match considering the halftime circumstances adjustments, unfortunately we really ran out of energy and it was hard to see us get a 2nd by about the 85th minute even with lots of possession. The two striker approach will hopefully lay the groundwork for a Schick-Hlozek pairing as the latter develops in the next years. I also hope the Danes beat England or Ukraine in the semis, they are a smart side that works very hard.
Well it was fun while it lasted. Silhavy did a good job even with us losing but Denmark were very strong defensively. If we can fix our defense, I think we have a good team for the world cup
