The other thread got way long, and a bit cheesy, tbh.

Oh and I agree. The cheese talk should be left to the off topic threads.

    Best part of the article

So if the first bid was rejected, and no further talks have been had, how is it a negotiation? Especially since the first bid was emphatically turned down by saying that there is no negotiationand that Arsenal don't want to sell Cesc.

Can Sept 1 hurry up and get here, I am sick of this.

I still say this is posturing by Barca more than anything. Saw these quotes from new Barca president Rosell today.

If Barca want Cesc - they're not getting any discounts.

Does the €50m budget account for the Villa transfer?

Who knows with these chumps from Barca. I have a hard time believing anything they say (other than that they want to acquire Cesc for as little as possible).

The Rosell quote I posted earlier today says "as of now we have 50 M Euros..." I don't think Rosell even knows that that really means, but taken literally - it means Villa isn't included. Then again Rosell's previous sentence said that 50M Euros would be available for transfers every year, so that would seem to indicate the Villa transfer would have to come out of that.

Based on a coversion rate of 1 Euro = 0.83276 GBP, that 89M Euros comes to a little over 74M GBP. That full amount should cover the sale of Cesc as far as I'm concerned - provided they actually have the funds to do so.

So again... who knows. Let's ask Paul the Octopus since he seems to be all-knowing.;)

Barcelona are a bit like the guy who gets his 350 dollar paycheck on Friday and immediately goes out and buys a new iPhone.

LMFAO. So true. A big contract won't mean much when there's no paycheck.

My thoughts exactly- Barca is broke and is talking about spending another 50m euros.

    It's insanity.

They aren't broke. They have an off-season, short-term liquidity problem. It really isn't a huge deal given the revenue they generate when the season begins.

    120 million isn't exactly a payday loan.

True, but they are trying to spend half of it in future transfer fees!

Who is the guy on the top, left who looks like he is doing an awkward sliding tackle? I can't place him.

That's Cliff Bastin...probably one of the best Chapman-era action shots, so I had to throw it in, along with Charlie George, Titi, DB10, Vieira, Liam Brady, Tony Adams and Ian Wright!
