no need, just 2 miles a week on a treadmill and he's already more fit than 16 of the professional players.

I guess we will find out. In the 2018 WC, France conceded 6 goals and that was still the joint lowest in the tournament along with third-place Belgium. England conceded 8 and finished fourth.

Maybe we are just moving away from the era of ultra defensive football exemplified by the likes of Italy 2006 and Spain 2010 and moving to a new winning model which doesn't require teams to be as stingy in defense.

Edit: "joint lowest" excluding teams eliminated in early rounds for obvious reasons.

Or maybe they are a terrible defensive team. This is switzerland. not exactly prolific. I guess they'd ship 10 against spain.

    Interesting thought.

Can anyone think of a team that has ever won a major international trophy conceding a lot of goals, but were able to outscore opponents nonetheless? I can't think of any examples off the top of my head that conceded more goals than games played.

I see France conceded 7 at Euro 2000, which is the record for most conceded by champion side, but 3 came against Netherlands when they played their B team in a meaningless match.

One of the beauties of international football: teams can't press like maniacs in a compressed tournament format and under the heat. They are forced to slow the game down to standstill like in the old days, when the game was more about intelligence and not just about taking advantage of space on the transition or pouncing on defensive errors caused by pressing.

Spain was clearly the better side against Croatia and just had a few brainfarts. This was actually an even game. That's the difference.
