We need a thread on this guy to discuss his progress......I took "best young player" out of the thread title as it tends to have an antagonizing effect on some visitors to the forum. Peace.

Anyways does anyone here have a video link of the game vs Arsenal? I didn't get to see it.

World papers, England surrender to Ronaldo

    http://www.record.pt/noticia.asp?id=661011&idCanal=292

rated a 8 for the game with Arsenal

at the end of the article only negative the way Ronaldo points his finger to the fans, to tell theme to shut up, he had object throw at him in the corner kicks, etc

He's proving all his critics wrong, even I am surprised at how well he's playing so early in his career. He's showing great courage for a 19 year old.

He needs to me a bit more modest. I remember Figo would even have more spectacular games at Barca or RM, but he toned down the festivities. He literally let his on field play speak for itself, he educated himself. Well spoken in various languages etc., because prodigies like this don't have the opportunity to go to universities like most others. He also needs to think that after football, what's next. The difference between him, and Figo is that Figo was always a high class kind of guy, Ronaldo is still learning, and can learn a lot with how Figo managed himself on and off field. I hope he can learn how to manage this as well, but for me Figo will always be the man. Ronaldo is still light years away from him. Somehow people are so enthusiasm by this kid, that they either love him or hate him. Even on the field he still needs to prove a lot, remember in soccer "your only good as your last game".

He'll get a talk down from Ferguson/Queiroz or even his teamates about this.
This is bad for his image!

Don't be fooled by Figo. He has a big ego. And what was so classy about his behaviour against England at the Euro? I understand the point you're making, Figo is well spoken and sounds educated, is serious about what he does and is highly respected; a great player and former world player of the year. Good for him, but he never won anything with Portugal.

Ronaldo is a different personality...he is more of a showboat than Figo, but that's his nature, he's flamboyant, there is no crime in that. I don't mind it at all, we need to have more fun in the world...everyone is always so damn serious....it's only a game. His all round game is improving every time out and in that sense he is maturing.

I'm not worried about Ronaldo's attitude...I just hope he stays healthy.

and the only people hating him are English fans outside of ManU, but that's only because they wish he was on their team.

    Are you serious!
    He is educated.
Have you seen the man (oops kid) speak?
How woul you have felt. Playing well(better then Ronaldo), taking a shot that the keeper barely saves to a corner kick, he goes to take it, and sees he's being subed. The MAN also has pride.
Is he as consistent as Figo?
Figo can play anywhere on the field, Ronaldo still can't.
So in reality your trying to compare them, there is no comparison Figo is light years away from Ronaldo. Eventhough I think he has the talent to get there, but he needs to prove on the field. I saw games this year of him, and he was non existent. Overall I barely saw Figo games where he wasn't a major influence in the game, until Ronaldo can be as consistent as Figo to me Figo is still the main man. Why is Scolari wnating him to come back to the NT, all the hard games are coming up.

    A few questions for you.
    Do you know Luis?
When was the last time a Portuguese player won player of the year?
Maybe if CR takes my advice he might be the next one.
I like the kid he came from SCP, but all the showman don't mean sh!t if you can't prove it every week.
Believe me if he keeps it up, somebody will take him down.
It's all about about respect for your fellow workers.

    A couple of things:

I'm moving this to the "Clubs" section, it seems more appropriate there.

Secondly, I closed the thread primarily due to the actions of the normal posters on this forum, not the English fans, or any others. They are not "guests" on this forum. It is as much their forum as it is ours or anyone else's.

So if someone decides to disagree with you, use reasoned arguments without personal attacks. If the same crap happens as before, I will close the thread, not allow for any other Ronaldo-related threads, and cards will be given out.

    Thank you.

    1. At the Euro two things turned Portugal's fortunes around 1 was Miguel in for Ferreira and the other was Ronaldo. We wouldn't have made it out of the first round without Ronaldo....

2.Yes I am comparing them...why not?! I don't recall Figo, as great as he has been, being arguably the best player on one of the worlds top teams at age 19.

    3. Ronaldo has proved it on the field. Have you watched any WC qualifying games or any ManU games of late, the guy has been a force.

    4. Get over it, Figo is not the main man anymore. There are at least 4 players ahead of him in the depth charts; Deco, Ronaldo, Maniche, and Carvalho.

    5. Portugal can beat Slovkia without Figo...if they don't then Portugal isn't good enough anyways. I would like Figo on the NT regardless, the guy is still a very good player, with loads of experience and would provide good leadership.

See your wrong I do like him as a player, root for him, and wish him the best(as I stated previously),but he does stupid things. :p
What Figo did was work on few perfect dribbles, and perfect them to a way that they worked 90% of the time. Ronaldo is still at 50%, hope he gets to were Figo got, remember besides Figo no other portuguese player ever reached that plateau. What ticked me off is that you talking about ego, when you don't even know the man.

Another good game from Ronaldo, responsible for creating both goals in ManU's 2-0 victory, but perhaps a little too much unnecessary foot work at times (partly due to his teammates not getting into the rigth position to receive a pass). ManU didn't play that great, Giggs was almost invisible.
Ronaldo didn't get any help from his team mates as a few times he was wide open and Rooney, O Shea and others couldn't get him the ball. Ronaldo and Rooney played well as did Keane at times. A 19 year old and a 20 year old are carrying ManU right now.
