I believe we are individual assholes who combine for a greater asshole. Crew fans are the Voltron of assholes, if you will.
I was trying to remember Jacob Thomas. One of the fastest people in a straight line. The moment he had to turn....
Let me preface this by saying he scored a ton of goals for us, and I loved the guy; but the title of the thread is “Crew players that consistently annoyed you.” Mine is Jeffro—for all of the runs he quit on and for all the times he was offside. Now, I’ve said it before. Every club and every national team has or has had that one striker who is good, but frustrates the hell out of people. For example, Jozy Altidore. Personally, I’ve liked him. But there are those out there—in this forum even—who ride him for various reasons, such as his goal-scoring slumps, his fitness/injuries, and so on. Yet, at 30, he’s scored 42 goals, putting him 3rd on the list of all-time goal scorers for the Nats. I’ve never understood the concept of hanging out just barely in an offside position with the hopes that every so often the assistant referee will miss the call, giving the striker a scoring opportunity. Eight or nine times out of ten, you’re gonna get flagged. It breaks the flow of the game and gives the opponent a free kick. IMO it’s not worth it so that 1-2 times in ten you might get a resulting shot on goal. Yet Jeffro played that game so to speak. He has such blinding speed, yet it seemed like every game there were those through balls that he would give up on. Annoyed the snot out of me. Sixty-two Crew goals later, he clearly knew what he was doing. Should definitely be in the Circle of Honor.
Not that I knew it when he was on the pitch for us, but there has seldom been a bigger @$$ than Daniel Paladini.
Doctor Khumalo was marketed as a marquee player and it wasn’t his fault. What was his fault was the fact that he wasn’t very good. I used to scream my head off at him.
I believe that was me. In fact, I think we met at a game after my oldest son yelled “Jesus Tchani”. If I am correct, we were sitting right behind you and you turned around and made a pretty funny comment that I don’t remember now. I just remember laughing pretty hard.
Might well be (if you are in 124--or were 123 in earlier days, as I don't remember when we moved over)--but he wasn't the only one to say it.
Makes sense then.... You aren't the folks currently sitting behind Mrs KG and I are you?? I can't always connect faces and screen names.
Andres Mendoza. I know we have jokes about the guy...but he really wasn't someone I enjoyed cheering for. He had a bad attitude and, despite talent, a laziness about him. Couple that with the fact that Mendoza was Warzycha's DP answer to leading the front line after disposing of our Massive Champions. He was the face of the beginning of slow boring decline that included years of mediocre uninspired soccer (continuing after his departure). And a locker room that didn't seem together.
Pretty much this. I love pro sports more than the college versions because it's these guys' job to be good at it. I'm paid to do a job and if I'm crap at it someone lets me know. As a paying customer, it's my right and really, my responsibility to let them know when they're doing a crap job. I love watching us win and play gorgeous free-flowing attacking soccer and cheering them on while they do it. I also take a certain amount of joy from launching from my seat and yelling at player X to do something right for a change. I'll be damned if I'll let a bunch of crap players going through the motions on a hot but lovely summer Saturday ruin my night. I'm going to enjoy myself telling them they suck at their job. Then I'm going to come on this board on Sunday morning and tell all of you how much they sucked. Taking pleasure in the good times and bad. Otherwise this stuff will kill you.
