So a lil Intl break then a huge game for us that we can clearly win. If we want to be taken serious in the playoffs we must at minimum get a draw. We are hot and I think we will get the W
Orlando could be on 41 if they get the 3-0 forfeit from Dallas. Hopefully NYRB win their game in hand & bury them.
Is MLS ever planning to make a formal statement on this. They've had nearly a week to review this. I mean honestly, putting together a best dressed coach bracket and poll can't be that time consuming. You'd think they might at least want to pretend to be in alliance with FIFA rules here.
Much ado about nothing. This is from page 49 of the latest IFAB booklet: http://www.fifa.com/mm/Document/Foo...0/11/67/Lawsofthegame2017-2018-EN_Neutral.pdf “If a named substitute starts the match instead of a named player and the referee is not informed of this change : the referee allows the named substitute to continue playing no disciplinary action is taken against the named substitute the named player can become a named substitute the number of substitutions is not reduced the referee reports the incident to the appropriate authorities” I think the Twitterverse may have been basing their theory on previous guidelines. This is a non-story.
The fact that Orlando protested the match with the league does not lend credence to your "it is only Twitter's panties is a bunch" theory. Nor does the fact that the league hasn't officially said the result stands yet. If it was meritless, they would have said so by now.
Well, this is actually the first I'm hearing about an official protest, FWIW. Honestly, the only place I've read ANYTHING about this being a problem is here, on BigSoccer. I've searched MLS, and ESPNFC -- nothing. If this was actually a story, someone would be reporting it somewhere. No one is. Not that I've noticed, anyway. As for the league not saying the result stands -- have they said anything to the contrary yet? I never heard them say our 5-0 loss in Toronto was official either, but I have no reason to think otherwise.
OK... found this, from the18.com . http://the18.com/soccer-news/fc-dallas-lineup-change-mls-possible-forfeit "The issue surrounds FC Dallas midfielder Michael Barrios, who was in the official starting lineup announced prior to the match in Orlando. Not long before kickoff, Barrios was replaced with Tesho Akindele for an apparent foot injury. This is all well within FIFA rules. A player can be taken out of the starting lineup for injury or illness and replaced with a player from the substitutes list. However, the player originally in the starting lineup is then ineligible to play in the match." Emphasis mine. Problem: The bolded part is flat-out incorrect, as per the Laws of the Game I quoted upthread. They're just wrong. So I reiterate -- it's a non-story.
Lazy thread. But I guess if we want to be taken seriously, we need to get at least a draw. Not sure exactly what we gain by being "taken seriously". Almost seems like more of a disadvantage than an advantage. Shhhhh, don't tell the rest of MLS that the Crew hasn't lost in 2 months. Keepitsekrit.
While that line is not in those rules you posted, the last line in the rules......the referee reports the incident to the appropriate authorities... makes it a little grey to me...seems to be indication of something not quite right about it, if the rules call it an "incident" and is "reportable". Probably under the "fair play" umbrella.
MLS decided it was a violation of the MLS rules of competition and fined Dallas $25K plus docked them some GAM. But no forfeit or points changed.
