There is a MLSNP set to go to Cleveland independent of the Haslams. And another business owner is pushing really hard for an NWSL team there with eyes on a 130 million dollar stadium. USL did get Division One Status for its European calendar women's league.
https://www.columbuscrew.com/crew2/ I know MLS NP teams generally don't get a lot of attention and really, they shouldn't. Their main purpose, after all, is to develop talent for the first team. But can someone please tell them it's past time for an update to the main page?
To call the Cleveland situation less than a sure thing would be generous: https://www.clevescene.com/news/deb...e-delayed-until-soccer-stadium-built-43677907
Jayden Da, Could go back to college, if he does we would still hold his rights I assume. I think his choice is Crew2 or school. No way he is making the first team.
Another Crew 2 signing (former DC United homegrown player): https://www.columbuscrew.com/news/columbus-crew-2-sign-defender-jacob-greene
So you're saying that "We hope to put together a public/private financing arrangement" is not the same as "Fire up the dozers, boys, and start pouring that foundation"? Huh.
Crew 2 signs a keeper: https://www.columbuscrew.com/news/columbus-crew-2-sign-goalkeeper-cole-johnson
Is "We love our Johnson" a family-friendly song? We love our Johnson, we do! We love our Johnson, we do! When he's not near us, we're blue! Oh, Johnson we love you! Colossal Johnson! clap clap clap-clap-clap
Crew 2 has signed an academy player to a 2024 pro contract: forward Brent Adu-Gyamfi. Turns 18 next month. https://www.columbuscrew.com/news/columbus-crew-2-sign-forward-brent-adu-gyamfi
Reminds me of the promotional campaign someone once suggested for the NBA when Magic and a bunch of other stars all shared the same surname; "Come see our Johnsons"
Back in the days when a Crew supporters section consisted of 30 people, the Colorado Rapids came to town. Their goalkeeper got an injury and was substituted out during the game. The replacement was a guy named Bouna Coundoul who was probably their version of Noah Palmer. Terrible, forgettable and known only by the hardcores. Anyway, the back of his jersey said Bouna on it. One of our players kicked the ball over the crossbar, calling for a goal kick right in front of 137. Mr. Coundoul called for a field player to take the kick. The chant of "Bouna cannot get it up" was absolutely epic and something that could never happen today. I'm sure you remember the player who had a very unusual name. He shared a name with a coach on another team. For the life of me, I can't remember the name. Anyway, the game was in Florida, IIRC. They ran a promotion where any fan showing up who could show ID matching this unusual name got free admission. One person took advantage. And who can forget the Jamal Sutton Junk Shot? Another piece of epic mastery by Steve Sirk.
I once heard a woman try to start a chant of: He's big, he's wide, I'd let him come inside. Andy Iro, Andy Iro.
I know exactly which woman that was. She's also famous for: He's fast, he's quick, His name's a porno flick Emmanuel, Emmanuel.
Yet another Crew 2 signing: https://www.columbuscrew.com/news/columbus-crew-2-sign-midfielder-christopher-pearson
Also says that #Crew96 will be announcing their Crew 2 head coach in coming days— Ty Fisher (@FisherTyler__) February 29, 2024
Bez knows but is waiting to announce , sounds like finalizing the contract to me. He also at the time at the Interview knew about our open cup status but couldn’t give any details.
There was a nice piece on Fox 28 thos morning about the Capys--they were visiting the zoo and got an in-person meet and greet with two of the zoo's real capys. But the news folks did not know why the team was nicknamed for them.
