We'll see what comes out of Lalapalooza. A current member here hit me up on facebook and stated that the Chicago Mayor will enact COVID regulations if there is a break out and Pritsker may follow suit state-wide. Sort of a joke but I think there is a bit of holding breath here. Obviously I am getting over-stressed about this and I know Frankly I don't think we can do a shut down again - it would by the end of many small and even large buisinesses (Airlines for example). But masks - 10 kids per practice and no games... No I am not doing that again. It would be the end of travel soccer for us for good.
Yesterday the Illinois Gov stated that all public and private schools k-12 need to mask up - kids and faculty. Today he mandated all indoor sports will require masks for all athletes.
Honest question for all of you. If it weren't for the media and state government telling you there is a pandemic, would you know there is one?
What sort of question is that? I know 3 people who have died personally. 2 people have died from my former work - one other collegue had 4 members of her family die. I got covide between my two shots and atleast 10+ others I know had covid.
Well crap, we didn't even make it out of preseason. Our starting goalie just tested positive for Covid. Now we're on hold figuring out what the next course of action is. We had one more preseason game scheduled for tomorrow and then were supposed to start the season on Saturday.
Well sorry to hear this. We are scheduled for a Disney Showcase in January and I very much believe that will not happen - I think that State shuts down completely by mid December. My guess is Texas will get shut down again as well. As far as Illinois - I am not holding out for a full season. Even if the leagues keep going there is still a risk of losing key players. One of my buds just started training this week and 3 girls are out from COVID - including their only keeper. So either way... It's going to impact us.
Hope everyone is ok. Everyone on a team will pay a price if some people aren't believers, break rules, or make poor choices because "they know better". Their poor judgment can effect the entire team--forfeits, loss of key players or quarantine of the entire team---or worse. Hopefully this peer pressure will keep the bad actors from screwing over everybody else. As from the beginning of this mess, "This is more than about you". On the plus side, I do not see another shutdown happening, it's not feasible economically, politically or practically. As far as masking goes, I don't believe outdoors wearing a mask while playing is productive or beneficial, especially when people are just wearing them around their chins (I did the same in my leagues). Indoors we will have to see what happens. Boosters will be coming soon, and we will always have to live with COVID. There will have to be some level of acceptance of that, hopefully we can find a happy medium. Stay safe everyone.
I had to quote because I agree with everything you say. I understand concerns over long term affects of the vaccine. That has been my concern from the beginning. However, now I am more worried about being limited in what I (and my family) are allowed to do. Whether that's travel, sports, work, whatever, I think getting the vaccine is the better choice. I'm going to keep praying for the next 2 1/2 months that our season doesn't get shortened. I agree being outside, even without masks, SHOULD not be a "danger". But what happens when these kids go back to school (we start tomorrow)? We had a couple of JV players diagnosed with Covid last month(?). There was no team quarantining at that time, just those diagnosed. I have no idea who on the teams (girls or boys) are vaccinated other than my kids. We're
As expected, scrimmage scheduled for tonight is cancelled, as well as practice tomorrow. The hope is that we will be able to play the opener on Saturday, albeit minus our starting goalie (and, from what my son has managed to figure out, two or three non-starters). All those who are non-vaccinated that had close contact with the goalie have to quarantine - those who are vaccinated are good to go, assuming of course they have no symptoms.
As long as conversation is restricted to to the effects of the pandemic on Youth soccer, I'll allow it.
To follow up on my previous posts (in case anyone cares ), our team's season opens tomorrow afternoon. From what I gather from my son, only the goalie will be unavailable for the game (still in quarantine). The others were determined to not be close contact and thus are available. Now all we have to do is go out and try to win the opener with a keeper who didn't start playing the position until two months ago.
Yup - hearing Eclipse is being hit in some cases with players out and an entire team from Wisconsin (not sure if it was Eclipse) had to pull out of play because they all needed to quarantine. My gut is that we'll get a season but it could be another worthless one for many top teams looking to make their mark. This could be game over for indoor facilities altogether.
I'm not certain this is related to the pandemic, but as HS soccer starts in Illinois, it looks like some of the schools my son's team plays that would typically have a full JV either don't have one this fall or are relying on large numbers of swing players who play JV and varsity in order to field JV teams. This follows something similar we saw in the abbreviated spring season. Hopefully this bounces back at some point.
I was curious, so I looked it up. The season started August 9. Boys have had 13 "Covid Cancellation" games, caused by 11 schools. Girls have had 26 games cancelled because of Covid, caused by 16 teams (one game between the same two teams was cancelled twice). While it looked like most of the cancelled games were smaller schools (guessing they didn't have enough kids to play), there were a few larger ones. Classes started for us this past Wednesday, kids statewide have mask mandates in class and on busses. The mandate just came down last week, so some schools may have started their classes before that.
