Many of the EU countries have regular set ups where the Govt compensates employers up to 80% to keep employees on the job. Employment never dropped as much there so some of the stimulus wasn't needed.
And the reason grass looks greener is because they imagine receiving those cheques in addition to the other support they are receiving, not instead of. Not to mention EU is very good at supporting people who have just lost their jobs.
Never forget! Yet another painful reminder NOT to take your medical advice from people like Candace Owens or Joe Rogan, who have no fucking idea what they're talking about. pic.twitter.com/BwCUdtVjN8— Jake Lobin (@JakeLobin) May 3, 2021
If you are an anti vaxxer who likes to do “my own research” how about you look up how positivity rates, new cases and deaths are plummeting in the places where a lot of vaccines were administered compared to those where there have been very few vaccines— David Amoyal (@DavidAmoyal) May 3, 2021 Pretty normal and reasonable take to me. Which comes on the back of fresh reports that herd immunity will probably never be reached at this point, due to the insufficient number of people who have gotten the vaccine . Nice going, morons...
It varies a lot by country with the German speaking and Scandi countries being at the top. I think being unemployed in Greece, Spain and Ireland is pretty crap.
The other biggie is healthcare access. Part of Biden's package was extending access to ACA subsidies and essentially making policies free to those that have had unemployment benefit this year. Oh, and COBRA subsidies for, iirc, six months. I'm sure there are other things. All of that is unnecessary in countries where healthcare access isn't jeopardized by loss of a job or furlough.
wtf...vaccine shedding??? https://www.yahoo.com/news/miami-school-became-beacon-anti-120401766.html Centner Academy, a private school in Miami, warned students they should not hug parents who had been vaccinated against the coronavirus for more than five seconds because they might be exposed to harmful vaccine shedding.
Death Santis wants Florida to open so bad, that they banned all local mandates and vaccine passports: Governor DeSantis is preventing local leaders from keeping their communities safe. Less than half the state has been vaccinated. People are still dying. This is dangerous. https://t.co/tasONHdRb1— Florida Democrats (@FlaDems) May 3, 2021 Be prepared to see the Covid numbers grow...
Reaching ‘Herd Immunity’ Is Unlikely in the U.S., Experts Now Believe - The New York Times (nytimes.com) So infuriating honestly... Especially since all those brainwashed morons who refuse to take the vax are blindly following the lead of people who have taken it themselves, quietly/undercover. Mount Everest level of stupidity.
12 to 15 years old to be in line for Pfizer: Best NYT alert ever. "FDA is preparing to authorize use of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine in adolescents 12 to 15 years old by early next week, according to federal officials familiar with the agency’s plans..." https://t.co/rgbLgyeGrI— Preeti Malani (@PreetiNMalani) May 3, 2021
Vaccination bringing us to herd immunity domestically (if that even makes sense) was always a bit of red herring anyway due to the invention of the airplane. It's a global effort that no country on its own will achieve. In the US, the way this is politicized like everything, I wouldn't be surprised if pockets of the country will get back to pretty much "normal" while others will remain as bad as ever in the medium- to long-term. Speaking of bad, is anyone else following the case counts in Nepal? They are doubling every week, if not more. That's double the rate of increase we saw in India a couple of weeks ago before it slowed down somewhat.
Ehh.. That's not technically true. It is entirely possible to have population immunity within a country while the rest of the world has not reached herd immunity. As an example, measles currently doesn't have herd immunity globally, but the measles outbreaks in the US don't really spread in the general population because the US has/had herd immunity against the measles. The same thing would be true with covid...
That's probably the reason why the Dutch birthnumbers are 10% higher than normal. The Dutch economy was surprisingly doing well last year, especially compared to our neighbours.
So don't visit or do business with any state or country that has less than 30% fully vaccinated or given that people with one shot will probably get a second less than 45% with their first vaccine.
