ESD wants the Belmont bidders to re-bid on a smaller parcel of land, putting the restaurant row out of play but still keeping the land for the stadium and hotel: http://www.empireofsoccer.com/stadium-bidders-readjust-42676/
Probably best for 'Mos to downsize Stadium to 18,000 ala SKC. This also, as I have always suspected NYS. wants a casino/ betting on that campus. I do not think this is bad at all.
Being able to keep the hotel in the proposal helps, but the loss of the restaurant/shopping area really hurts. ESD summed it up best:
Honestly, restaurants are iffy. Put a retractable roof on the stadium, there is your year round revenue stream
The Cosmos will work the restaurants into the Parcel B plan without shrinking the stadium: http://www.empireofsoccer.com/encouraged-changes-stadium-42698/ Also hearing the New York Lizards MLL team may be a tenant at the stadium if it gets built, but that's just a rumor.
That is not the thought in most pro sports circles these days. I think The Patriots were first in developing the area near their stadium. The revenue stream from Patriot Place must be good for others to copy the model. Here in ATL the Braves move form Turner mostly due to the stadium commission. The team wanted the rights to develop the parking lots. They couldn't agree so the Braves have moved to the next county with a new stadium now being built with a restaurant row which the Braves will control. The team says they are moving to be closer to the suburban fan base, I don't believe it, It's all about the money from the restaurants.
I can't see why you would need a third-tier. The club I support in the UK averages about 5,000 in a 20,000 seater stadium and I'm sure it's demotivating for the players. Start with 15,000 with room to expand.
Many people have expressed the same view. The clubs stance seems to be they want to draw USMNT matches and big international friendlies and feel that's the right size. USMNT have sued at a few 18k or so MLS stadiums though
NY STATE is looking to be wowed by a "VENUE" not necessarily a "soccer team". Belmont is zoned already for sports. They will be looking to get USMT and USWT,World Cup, as well as tennis matches and more in a big venue. This is privately funded also. I think you're asking the wrong questions. It's not "will they be able to fill it"? That's a West Ham United question.
could be anyday now...lol http://www.empireofsoccer.com/report-belmont-site-bidders-confident-final-decision-is-coming-45215/
It's a joke they have taken so long to give an answer, we've been down this road before. At this point even a no would be good just so we can finally move on and focus elsewhere.
Same tune... Just singing in the rain. Three Years On, Cosmos Remain Confident in Stadium Proposal This April, the New York Cosmos will be starting their fourth season in the NASL on the campus of Hofstra University at Shuart Stadium. But four years ago, they thought they would be in a very different place. At this very moment, the Cosmos hoped to have had their own brand new 25,000 seat stadium complete and ready for a ribbon cutting ceremony. That was the idea back in the winter of 2012, when the Cosmos revealed their bid to develop an underutilized parcel of land at Belmont Park. Three years later, that has yet to materialize. http://www.empireofsoccer.com/three-years-on-cosmos-remain-confident-in-stadium-proposal-45793/
This thread is ridiculous. 3 years that's not that LONG. Do you realize that ESD started soliciting private companies for development since at least 2004 ? CALM DOWN people put the gun away. This thing was supposed to be dead in 2008 before David Patterson, a Hempstead kid, pushed it further wanting casinos. The Casino option has so many hurdles that i think that option is about dead. The communication since 2013 has been underrepresented IMO. I understand why Stover is confident honestly. There have been union rallies for the COSMOS and Empire State Development Corp asked for revised plans in December. What more do you want? If the COSMOS get this they'll be the luckiest soccer club in the history of The US because this just fell right into their lap.
in order to be profitable you must have both gate attendance AND the ability to control your revenue stream...so clearly Hofstra is not a long-term solution. Personally I could care less if the NASL lives or dies, but I do know how a successful business must be run.
Oh you do ? LOL. Thanks for the life lesson. Is your book available on amazon? Seems like you care though. SMH
@Tynitty... It takes me enough patience just to endure the negative post from the anti-NASL crowd. Don't start something I'm gonna have to finish. This is your only warning.
Same, it'd be nice if we could discuss stuff on various soccer forums without the fanboys fighting each other. One day I hope to see that. Anyway how are you Sam? Cosmos look to have stiff competition this year.
Yep... It's going to be an interesting year. I really only care about the US Open Cup this year. Beating the Union, NYCFC and Red Bulls are on my "Cosmos To Do" list for the year.
That's going to be a tough road. The East is actually good for a change this year. I mean the Union could be a contender this year. The Union! Lol.
