NJ hasn't plateaued yet The coronavirus outbreak in New Jersey continues to escalate with 2,805 deaths and 68,824 total cases reported by state officials on Tuesday, marking an increase of 4,059 cases since the previous day. Those numbers include 365 new deaths reported - the largest one-day increase in the outbreak. Gov. Phil Murphy has said there’s evidence that the rate of increase is slowing and that social distancing efforts including a near-lockdown stay-at-home order have begun to take hold. But the state has yet to hit the plateau. https://www.nj.com/coronavirus/2020...-another-4k-new-positive-tests-confirmed.html
Well...I'm about a Month into my isolation and I've been able to keep being purposefully occupied. I staked off a 30' X 50' section of the back lawn and I can report there are 4,578,363 +/- 3 blades of grass. My next challenge is to count the amount of leaves on the lilac bush. I'll need a ladder as it's 15' high.
Also: the quality of care that a rich POC has access to is significantly higher than what a poor white person will have access to.
Not sure where you are going there. I am sure you know about the structural inequalities in the US and the massive gap between the wealth of minority households and White households.
That is the right thing to do.....I hope those students will get the ******** out of this scam school as soon as they can as well. Liberty University students filed a class action lawsuit against the school alleging that the university and it’s president, Jerry Falwell Jr., placed “students at severe physical risk and refused to refund thousands of dollars in fees owed to them for the Spring 2020 semester,” the New York Times reports.
While this is certainly true, POC, in general, get worse care than their white counterparts, so we can expect higher death rates among rich POC than rich Whites and higher death rates among poor POC than poor whites.
There is a reason why the opioid epidemic his White communities hard and not really Black communities. It is well known that doctors are less likely to believe the level of pain provided by a Black person as compared to a White person. Therefore, the necessary medication to help their issue is less likely to be given. A side effect is that the Black community didn't have a great a problem with opioids as the White community. But there are also issues with women being in labor/giving birth as well. Think c-sections and local anesthetic as well a postpartum depression. The list goes on and on and on. And while wealthy POC have access to better healthcare, it does not necessarily mean the treatment is all that better.
We are hiding the truth when we highlight wealth gaps and tie it to inequality of treatment related to health care (as it relates to race). The fact is that every serious study I have ever seen shows that in SIMILAR households (income, neighborhood, health insurance) Black people still get vastly underserved by the health care system as opposed to white people. Fewer tests are run, less efficacious drugs are provided, etc. We don't even have to get into a debate about wealth.
There are actually a lot of complete matches on youtube we've now taken to watching. Last night my kid and I watched the 2011 Champions League final, which I know I saw at the time but couldn't remember a damn thing about. Sometimes it pays to have a terrible memory.
We're actually in decent shape. The governor did the lockdown thing relatively early and we appear to be on the back end of the curve for new cases and deaths. Still getting new ones but nowhere near the rate they were before.
Just to add some clarity to this debate... The Pentagon’s top general has said that US intelligence has looked into the possibility that the coronavirus outbreak could have started in a Chinese laboratory, but that the “weight of evidence” so far pointed towards “natural” origins. The chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, Gen Mark Milley, was speaking on the day of a Washington Post report about state department cables in 2018 in which US diplomats raised safety concerns about the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) which was conducting studies of coronavirus from bats. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/apr/14/covid-19-origin-lab-general-mark-milley
You're right...so I just mowed that section. I emptied the grass catcher and am starting a recount. I'll get back to you next week.
What about that high rating show about a shit gibbon that is trapped in the White House and everyone thinks he is the president?
