Actually the Mercy only has less than a dozen patients on board so far. None are covid-19 patients. There have been some sort of Fed hold up on the Mercy and the Javit Center taking the virus patients.

Two of my immediate neighbors left the National Security Council staff in the wake of Trump's election. One of them, who lives across the street, was the director of that office when Trump was elected, and wrote an editorial about Trump's actions in the Post. Last week, I was on this thread discussing my wife's company. There were more than a few people at her organization that thought this pandemic is just a minor inconvenience, a bad flu at the most. In an ironic twist of date, one of the skeptics wife's boss has tested positive for the Corona virus.
We should watch it skeptically. There are plenty of indications they are not reporting their numbers accurately, so any reports out of there should be with a grain of salt. This is a tough call. There are plenty of people who own rental property and get income from them, or actually have that as their job. Those which have federal mortgages do get some relief, but those who don't still have to pay, and still have to get income. When I was in Memphis, I knew a couple of people who worked for their company for 25 years or so, retired when they were in their early 50s and bought a few rental properties because they liked the freedom to be their own boss and be responsible for others (they were the good landlords, not those ********s who ignored maintenance requests). But that is their income, yet their tenants might have been laid off and are not getting reduced pay, but the loans are likely private, so they are not getting any relief. Now, the letter might be condescending and mean, and they might be just gouging, but there is a question out there about things like these. I happen to know a couple of people here in Milwaukee who bought a few properties over the years. They are currently fine, but if this had happened when they bought their first property and were not in an essential job, I can see a real struggle. Ancodotal and all, but it is not an easy question to resolve. There really should be some moratorium for 60 or 90 days on all rent and mortgage collections. I don't know how that would practically work, and I don't even know if it is legal. But it should, at least, be discussed. Of course, with the President, himself, being a property owner, and his son-in-law also being a property owner, I doubt that is even a question they would think of.
