I would bet on ARG over PAR for third. And, honestly, I'm really worried about CHI right now. If looking at the 3v5 matchups in each group, CHI has the edge over VEN, but looking at the 2v3 matchups, VEN has the edge, and I think that comparison is more representative here...

Castellanos has been making waves for years, and that has to be one of her most impactful goals for VEN to date, but sadly the team couldn't make good of it (though I am very happy for CHI - the playoffs will be a good test for them and a chance to get back in form). Will be interesting to see what kind of splash she can make at Man City, and if more of the VEN NTers can develop for the side and make a good showing in two years' time.

Yes, Castellanos is a generational talent, it's a shame that the rest of the team didn't really manage to grow around her. I am curious too to see what she can do at Manchester City and if she can grow even more in her international status.

On the other hand, I guess the World Cup wouldn't be the same without one of the best GK in the women's game, Chilean Christiane Endler, so I kinda hope that Chile will be one of the three teams punching a ticket for the WWC.

Lets hope Chile isn't in the same bracket as the uefa team.

They have a good chance to be one of the four seeds and avoid the UEFA team.

Chile are currently top ranked of the play-off teams with one UEFA, one CONMEBOL and one OFC team still be selected.

The OFC team will be ranked below Chile. The other CONMEBOL team is 75% likely to be ranked better than Chile and the UEFA team is also 75% likely to be ranked better than Chile. Chile guaranteed to be third ranked team and therefore seeded.

Play-off seed will very likely look like this:

    #1 CONMEBOL or UEFA
    #2 CONMEBOL or UEFA
    #3 Chile
    #4 Chinese Taipei

If Paraguay and Bosnia do make the play-off, Chile would end up top seed actually.

Only clarification: you can't have two teams from the same confed seeded for these playoffs. If both C'BOL teams have a high enough rating to be seeded without continental considerations, one of them will get the short end of the stick.

Granted, it's highly likely that PAR will be the other C'BOL team in the playoffs, so CHI will still be the C'BOL seeded team in that case (and thus avoid the UEFA team). But just wanted to point that out.

You are right, I forgot this parameter and it changes everything because Brazil, Colombia and Argentina are ranked higher than Chile, so if they make the play-off, Chile won't be seeded.

I thought AFC has a higher seed, in comparison to CHI.

With the latest matches since Jun 17, adjusted ranking points are:

    AFC - TPE: 1595.09887

    CBOL- CHI: 1575.19713

OFC - PNG: 1506.22927 (theoretical max)

    CCAF - HAI: 1445.70828

    AFC - CMR: 1420.97508

TPE will get Seed #2 or #3. It is already safe from UEFA's bracket.

How are you getting that number for TPE? They were at 1585 for the Jun 17 list and have lost twice since. And yes, I know you can still earn points from losses, but I don't think those games were close enough to warrant that, plus they have very tiny weightings (the EAFF tournament is just a friendly in terms of the weighting system) so no way something like 10pts should be passing around if the team expected to lose does lose - or even draws. I would honestly expect them to have lost 5-10 points instead of gained 10pts.

Imagine if an all against all double round robin took place. Would be nice if that took place between 2024-2026, and it would be more interesting than uefa wwcq. But maybe 3 direct places and 2 repechaje places isn't enough of an incentive.

I don't think the number of available places would change things. Even if it was 5+2, this two-group format with repechage matches still works pretty efficiently.

I would love a South American women's double round-robin, with each match played as a doubleheader with the men's match.

A full double-round-robin would certainly be cool, but the biggest problem with that specific double-header idea would be that then you're a year off schedule - and that the men's and women's international windows never overlap. Plus, always using double-headers doesn't let the women's games grow and become their own events.

Confirmed: TPE has a higher seed than CHI.

With the latest matches since Jun 17, adjusted ranking points are:

AFC - TPE: 1581.14887 (prior number incorrectly counted W vs KOR)

    CBOL- CHI: 1575.19713

OFC - PNG: 1506.22927 (theoretical max, double 6-0 wins in rest of qualifiers)

    CCAF - HAI: 1445.70828

    AFC - CMR: 1420.97508

TPE remains safe and away from UEFA's bracket, as Seed #2 or #3.

More importantly: yesterday, COL knocked ARG out of Paris 2024. It will be COL's 3rd appearance in women's Olympic football.

17-year-old striker Linda Caicedo scored for COL, for a 1-0 victory. She plays in the Colombian national league. A tournament that almost disappeared in 2022, until the federal gov't stepped in with a 2nd round of emergency funds.

Imagine where would COL be in the world stage, with a stronger women's pro league.

There's no need for it to be a double header with the men's. I'm sure minus Peru and Bolivia it would be quite competitive.

A double round-robin tournament is feasible when each FA can foot the bill for travel expenses.

For Conmebol, calculate between 18-36 flight itineraries per NT player, in a given WC qualifier cycle.

BRA might be the one Conmebol FA that could absorb such expense, until every FA negotiates TV rights for their WNT. This is why Conmebol women's WC qualifiers occur in a centralized tournament.

Well all the UEFA teams are willing to foot travel expenses, even when their women's teams have no chance to qualify for anything.

@Philipp Morgenstern, welcome to the amazing universe of Conmebol women's football.

Guess how much a COL player earns per CA2022 match? Not much really, as in US $22 per game.

COL players protested during their first match's national anthems ceremony, denouncing both the non-start of their 2022 women's pro league and their pitiful WNT stipends.
Apparently, they earn 1/6 of what VEN players receive per match. Ouch.

Far from being a symbolic gesture, their goal was to embarrass the Colombian FA into addressing those concerns.

After the pandemic, Conmebol allowed all clubs to forgo fielding a women's squad. What used to be a main requisite for competing in men's continental tournaments, today remains suspended. Hence, the Colombian FA decided that it might as well shut down its women's professional league, without repercussions for men's clubs.

But, after being embarrassed on that international broadcast, the Colombian FA is scrambling to restart their women's pro league.

Even better, COL WNT got its own stack of paper from Conmebol, so far worth $500K. BRA won't let go of its $1.5M stack, for sure.

This COL story is far from a "lived happily ever after" ending, though.

Well travel costs can always be compensated with stadium gate receipts. But does a women's double round robin = profitable TV is another question.
