No, sadly it really is a marketing campaign. A misfire of one in my opinion because while it's gotten everyone in Brazil talking, it broke that bubble and the negative words got highlighted around the world, even in England and the US during Euro coverage ahead of Copa America.
TNT said they'd cover training but no youtube live went up. I wonder if CBF changed the schedule due to weather. I do expect we'll get regular coverage all week long (Thursday will be a travel day). Earlier today Rafael and Beraldo attended the daily press conference: CBF also released a short video of training "COPA AMÉRICA: PRIMEIROS TREINOS SELEÇÃO BRASILEIRA" which is basically a few clips from Friday and Saturday:
And I loved partying with him and his entourage especially nos Bailes Vermelho e Preto. Those were the days.
Eder Militao was at today's press conference: Summary of traiing today. Martinelli had a scare, but seems to be ok:
Ivo was the "bad" influence !!! Ronaldinho was probably the player I enjoyed watching the most in his few years at Barcelona. Him and then Messi.
No outdoor training for the press to cover today as Brazil is traveling to LA for the first match of Copa América. I'll link some recent articles or videos that have come out of the coverage in Orlando for anyone interested: Danilo interviewed by GE: https://ge.globo.com/futebol/seleca...elecao-um-papo-com-o-palestrinha-danilo.ghtml Interviewed by TNT Sports: Yan Couto and Wendel interviews: https://ge.globo.com/futebol/seleca...orcedor-da-selecao-convocado-por-merito.ghtml https://ge.globo.com/futebol/seleca...proteger-avancos-de-vini-nao-e-um-fardo.ghtml
The team has arrived in LA and will be training at UCLA ahead of the match: https://ge.globo.com/futebol/seleca...a-costa-rica-em-estreia-na-copa-america.ghtml
Danilo has published a "letter to the fans": https://www.theplayerstribune.com/br/posts/carta-danilo-brasil-selecao-copa-america Warning: it's a long read! I do like Danilo's openness and willingness to ask the fans to back the team, but I haven't read the whole thing yet, I imagine some quotes might get traction in coverage during training this weekend and maybe pre-games, but we'll see. It is available in English (and Italian too), just click the link above and click on the link for those versions if you prefer. And today's press conference attendee was Endrick:
Militão was in the starting line-up in today's training, in Beraldo's spot: https://ge.globo.com/futebol/seleca...ar-em-primeira-atividade-em-los-angeles.ghtml
Today's line-up included Arana: https://ge.globo.com/futebol/copa-a...-titulares-para-estreia-da-copa-america.ghtml
Changed the thread title for tomorrow's match. This way we keep all Copa America talk here, throughout. Tomorrow's line up was confirmed by Dorival: Alisson; Danilo, Militão, Marquinhos, Arana; João Gomes, Bruno Guimarães, Paquetá; Raphinha, Rodrygo, Vini Jr. https://ge.globo.com/futebol/seleca...-e-arana-na-estreia-contra-a-costa-rica.ghtml Dorival and the captain, Danilo, were at today's press conference: https://ge.globo.com/futebol/seleca...a-estreia-mudar-a-cara-diminuir-sorriso.ghtml
Good short hype article on Vini Jr from UOL today, ahead of the opening match: https://www.uol.com.br/esporte/fute...-copa-america-pode-virar-chave-na-selecao.htm
The other teams in our group play in less than one hour. Line-ups: Colombia: Vargas; Muñoz, Sánchez, Lucumí, Mojica; Lerma, Richard Ríos; Jhon Arias, James Rodríguez, Luis Díaz; Borré Paraguay: Morínigo; Velázquez, Balbuena, Alderete; Espinoza, Caballero, Villasanti, Cubas; Almirón, Enciso, Arce Expecting a comfortable win for Colombia. Paraguay are not their traditional frustrating selves lately. Let's see if that remains the case.
Paraguay started stronger than I expected, definitely looking to be the thorn in the side kind of team they often are. But eventually Colombia got into the much and have been more in control. They just scored on a great cross by James to Munoz. Very poor defending by Paraguay though, no one marking the guy on the far post and even the two midfielders coming in to add bodies on defense all went to the near post. 1x0 Colombia 33 minutes in.
40 minutes in, another headed goal, this time from a free kick on the right. Another cross by James, Lerma heads it in. Goal confirmed by VAR. Should be smooth sailing for Colombia in the second half.
An ESPN article on him came out today as well. https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/40409993/copa-america-2024-vinicius-brazil-does-real-madrid
Paraguay has been the better side in the second half. Enciso just got a goal to make it 2x1, with just over 20 minutes to go. A decent cross from the left, but poor marking in the box and Enciso got his foot to it.
