I think the biggest take away is that Dorival commands ZERO respect amongst the NT. I understand the carousel of coaches is unhealthy especially at the NT level, but how can you count on a guy that isn't even counted on by the players you're paid to orchestrate on the field.
For me, Dorival is in a tough spot (if he continues as Brazil coach.). The next call-up for the SA qualifiers is going to tell us much about his ability to learn. Does Dorival learn and calls up new players (Vanderson, Danilo (NF)) or does he feel constrained by time and other factors to basically do Copa America call-up and he'll have the same problems.
That right there is truly an understatement. Not only did Endrick not have a bad game, but he had a nightmare of a game, because how is it possible that his ONLY accurate pass as a professional footballer was the one directly from kick off. Of the five attempted passes, he managed to only complete ONE. That is insane. Endrick officially with the worst Copa America performance known to date Iconic ✨ pic.twitter.com/7XbCseCnk8— 🇪🇷🕊️ (@BetterCallAlba) July 7, 2024
This press conference aged like spoiled milk for Andreas, but it's even crazier that he was the one chosen to conduct it. What is going on in CBF 🎙️ Luis Suarez had strong words for Andreas Pereira after the game• "To talk about Uruguay you have to have a little respect. To know the history that Uruguay has. The one who spoke was a substitute for De Arrascaeta, the best player in Brazil."pic.twitter.com/aU2UI1q6GR— Uruguay Football ENG (@UruguayFootENG) July 7, 2024
Underrated comment. Bielsa touched on this during his pre game press conference. Reporter asked him about that 1992 Sao Paulo team that beat his Newell's team in the Copa Libertadores final and he goes on to say how that era futbol was completely different to today's era because that Sao Paulo team was littered with national teamers like Raí, Carlos Alberto, Cafú, etc who left for Europe much older compared to today's Brazilian players who leave way too young due to "globalism" amongst other reasons. This is just plain stupid. If he only had the chance to make 5 passes, the problem is elsewhere which is the disconnect in the midfield. He messed up that great chance that was gifted to him on a platter. He should have shot it instead of trying to find Raphinha, but he still had a few plays where he completely turned Uruguayan players and was either fouled or in one instance took a decent shot on goal.
Bravo. You see? I see it with my other NT, Italy. Equally but for different reasons. Can get into it further but those from a different era that watched even as recently as the late 90's can spot the differences. But before that it was even more glaring. - Every team plays the same. You cannot distinguish if you are watching Brazil or Jamaica the way they are set up tactically. - For me the biggest one is playing styles associated with a NT is eliminated. Brazil with strong Defence by virtue of always having the ball but always a willingness to Attack and play with flair. - The Dutch always with possession-based football even against strong teams that like to possess the ball as well (1998 QF against Brazil is proof of this). - Italy had no shame to play horizontal without useless vertical passes, employed the long ball more than people realize, counter attack. They were shamed to get away from it and play like everybody else. Foolishness! - Paraguay, strong defence. - Cameroon, everything seemed improvised and free flowing. - Mexico was able to field a strong team with all domestic players. Can go on and on. Teams had an identity and you knew who you were watching. Most importantly, teams didn’t know some of the players on the other teams as scouting (technology) wasn't as prevalent. Now? Every team knows every little characteristic of the opponent. Every team plays the same. Like robots. Getting away from individual technical skill to wanting robots disguised as athletes that run around. The only team that actually changed and in fact developed their identity in the last 15-18 Years is Spain. They never really used to have a playing style then tiki-taka appeared. But all others lost their style and characteristics.
He had ONE successful dribble attempt and lost the ball 15 times... This is not as disingenuous as you're trying to make it seem. I think the moment was bigger than him. To be expected of a teenager at these heights
Man, now you got me started. Even Tino Asprillia (ex Parma) said it this past week -- Italy played like robots. Nike could NEVER make that airport commercial on Brazil anymore. It just would not be credible.
Of course. The kid is still 17. He isn't going to carry this shit team with bad coaching. He is not THAT good. Having said that, the ball still more often than not got to him "square". He made 3 or so good turns that ended up being stopped with fouls. Very little, but the game didn't present him with much opportunity IMO.
I think the problem is too far gone to save anymore. With the bosman rule and the ever expanding production of the European game, it seems impossible to tie down young talent in Brazil especially in an era where every team seems to be beyond strapped for cash and the media has a bigger influence than before in the valuation of players Crazy how Neymar will be looked at as a maverick for sticking around as long as he did for Santos instead of bolting early for Europe. In a perfect world, Endrick doesn't leave for RM until he's 24 forging new heights for Palmeiras on a global scale along w Estevao and Luis Guilherme(?). League becomes a marketing dream and the value of the Brazilian Campeonato is restored of those in the hey days.
Don't you think it's a bit crazy that me and you as fans notice these things, but not Dorival?.. We're not surprised by how Los Charruas played celito. That's always been Uruguay's bread and butter, but it's been maximized with Bielsa at the helm. This was a disaster waiting for Endrick the minute both teams were announced as Quarter Finalists. He was almost set-up to fail. Reason #29838 to can Dorival who imo was a desperate hire. He can't read the room to save his life
Definitely too far gone. Never to return. A goal like Maradona's against England or Baggio against Czechslovakia can almost never happen again. While you can get a beautiful goal like Bellingham's against Slovakia to occur, that was improvised on the spot. But the days of R9 and Kaka going for a run and dragging Defenders along is over.
For the millionth time, enough of these stupid stutter-step run ups. Pick a spot, do not change your mind, mixture of placement and power. Doesn't go in, so be it. But there is more room for error with the stutter-steps.
Marcelo Bielsa: "Football has more and more spectators, but it is becoming less and less attractive." "What made this game the best game in the world at the time, is not prioritised today. Then this process will be finished." "No matter how many people watch football, if you don't ensure that what people is watching is pleasant, it will only benefit the business." "Because the business only cares about how many people watch it. But in a few years, the players who deserved to be watch will be less and the game produced becomes less enjoyable." "This current artificial increase in spectators will end. Football is not just 5 minutes of highlights. Football is more than that, it is a cultural expression. It is a way of identification."
Although I am not a fan of that run up, I don't think players miss less with regular traditional run ups. I think it's mainly just a visual thing.
That entire quote of Bielsa's is correct but those last 2 paragraphs even more. The current Euros are only enjoyable because of the high number of goals scored in the 85th Minute or later. Take away the late goals and it's mid on excitement. I watch it because it's football but compared to some past tournaments, it's gotten down. I can even write the same about Qatar.
Sorry, but didn't his team just commit 26 fouls (plus some that were not called) in a game? How is that attractive ? I respect Bielsa, but he needs a mirror.
You know, this is true lol. The game was tough to watch yesterday, But in his defense his teams typically play an attractive brand of football, and these sort of games are one-offs.
The naive in me wants to say Neymar invented that Penalty kick style, but who really created it? Also I wonder if there's a study on PK conversions between run-up styles.
I just looked it up and they committed 22 fouls in their WCQ game against Argentina. Feels like when they play minnows they don't hack, but when they play challenging teams things change. Lucky us I guess ...
At least the 2nd Half was better than the 1st. Not just Brazil. Even others have been boring. Interestingly enough, Venezuela vs Canada 1st Half was arguably the most exciting 45 Minutes of this tournament. Especially given their lower rankings in the game. Colombia exciting. They are probably playing with the most fun. Every other team is playing like it's a job.
