Any thoughts on how Convey's selection for the U20 team (obviously not a surprise) will impact his availability to DCU for the rest of the year. For instance, I note this paragraph from the story on MLSnet.com: "The team will train at Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. from Oct. 5-9 and play a game against Japan there on Oct. 8. The World Youth Championship takes place in the United Arab Emirates from Nov. 27 to Dec. 19." Presumably Convey plays on Saturday, flys to LA, trains with the U20s for the week, plays a game on Wed., and then flys to NE to join the team for the game on the 11th. Right? Anybody know of any other training plans? I assume Rongen and the league would work to minimize the loss of players from league matches and the playoffs. Is there a pre-tournament camp before they head to UAE? When do they leave? Is this simply a non-issue?
Yes, but since the tournament was postponed due to the conflict in Iraq, players who were eligible at the time are eligible now.
This camp is scheduled so that only two teams will miss their players- metros and Quakes for a game. United has games on 10/4 @ C-bus and 10/11 @ NE as you no doubt know. Still we'll probably be seeing Convey playing a friendly two days before playing NE. Possibly Quaranta too. Interestingly in the article about the roster for this training camp, Thomas Rongen says that Tino's availability for this camp is up in the air, meaning that he may be well enough to participate. If so that's good news for United since we could use him back now that Olsen's down. Convey's birthday is 5/27/87
This may be heresy, but does anyone else see a problem with someone on a Major League Team leaving to play with essentially a minor league team in the middle of the season homestretch when you're in playoff contention? Hello? He already plays on the Men's National Team for crying out loud! Bobby, stay home and keep your head in the DC United game - we're not in the playoffs yet.
