Maybe, but I think it would depend on who spanks him... I know at DCU, bobby would always respond well when Etch spanked him, but didn't seem to do much when Olsen spanked him. In any case, at this point I suppose a good spanking can't hurt...
Or maybe the coach is fine, and the team had a couple of poor matches? It's possible these 11 are the best available... and they still got beat. In the last 3 matches, Reading have 1 draw and 2 losses - and scored only 2 goals in those 3 games. Losing 1-0 on the road can happen to anyone. They followed that up with a 1-1 home draw to top of the table Wigan. Then they got whomped in a match away this past weekend to Wolverampton. Their next match is away at a pretty good Leicester City team. Look at Reading's overall form... they haven't lost at home - all 6 of their losses are on the road... so maybe it's not player selection, but away form that needs to be addressed. So who knows... maybe this was a 1 game aberation? Would I like to see Bobby Convey get more playing time? Of course, but only if he's the better option for the team.
Yes, it could be. My point was that Reading's supposed great form was an automatic response to anyone who questioned whether Convey should be getting more time. My point is that that response is not really applicable now. My view looking at Reading's overall form is that Reading is mediocre. Time will tell. Admittedly, I care only about Convey's development in this area.
Gotcha Agreed. I think Reading is a good side, but not great. A good run of luck may see them to the playoffs for promotion, but they'd need a lot of improvement to be a Premiership quality team.
OT, i'm not certain of the details, so could someone help me out. how does automatic promotion to the Premier League work in England? how does the Colaship playoff work at the end of the season? what are the other mediocre, or non-mediocre teams that could prevent Reading from at least getting into the promotion playoffs?
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/tables?league=ENG.2&cc=5901 Look at that table. Any of the first 10 teams would be contenders, plus maybe others.
would like specifics if anyone has them. which positions in the table automatically gain promotion? which positions earn playoff spots, and which seeds play eachother? how many total teams gain promotion, and via what route? thanks in advance.
i assume the playoff winner (3rd promotion spot) comes from the winner of 3/6 v. winner of 4/5. are the playoffs one match at the higher seed or a neutral site, or is there some other system?
Semi-finals are a home and home two game series. The winners of those advance to the finals at a neutral site, which has been Cardiff recently, but I believe this year's playoffs will be at the New Wembley, no? Each of the four divisions below the Prem have these playoffs too, and maybe more below them but I get foggy on things after the Conference.
The Conference never used to have a playoff, just promoted the champion, but perhaps this has changed over the past couple of years?
Palace got promoted by playoffs, and they were a mile behind the 3rd team, and (I believe) 6th place. In fact, I think 3rd placed teams have a very poor recent record in getting promoted. Which, to me, makes sense. Last year was an aberration; the teams 3 through 6 are normally pretty much as good as one another, it's pretty much a crapshoot/who's on form thing anyway. And the #3 team is gonna have a heavy pressure burden on them.
Yes I too remember what a bitch it was to get out of the Conference in Championship Manager with just the one promotion slot. They have changed it. Teams 2 through 5 now have a playoff. It almost had to be done, playoffs tend to raise a decent amount of cash, and lord knows the Conference teams need the money.
