Indeed you should be sorry. He never said FIFA was paying. :)

seems like the US will host

The most striking move would have the league take off the months of June and July to focus on the U.S. Cup and the FIFA Confederations Cup, which will be hosted by the United States.

Does anybody know if this true?

Don't bet on it. Jamie Trecker wrote that one.

Cnnsi is reporting the same thing that Sid mentioned, so it might not be a case of Trecker-nihilism.

No clauses at all -- states matter-of-factly that the U.S. is hosting the Confederations Cup.

It's the same story, just without the Trecker byline, but they're both from SportsTicker.

The vote on the Confed Cup is supposed to take place Monday or Tuesday, so it's possible that the MLS folks know how it's going to go and are figuring out how to handle the impact.

Or, with the US Cup, Confed Cup, and Gold Cup taking place next summer, maybe they'll take June/July off even if we only host two of the three.

If the US is hosting both a Nike US Cup and the Confederations Cup next summer, what will that do to the Gold Cup, I wonder. Mexico?

I can't blame that a single bit, either. Playing 18 games just to get the WC is way too many.

The USMNT team sounds like they are going to have a very busy summer next year. I hope the US gets the Confed cup next year and maybe invites Colombia to pay in the Nike US Cup.

Nike US Cup for the men?

Ok, sorry if this is really old news, but there's going to be a men's Nike US Cup in 2003?

I know that there's a women's Nike US Cup coming up next week, but there hasn't been one for the men since 2000. Has there been an announcement for a men's US Cup in 03?

I've only seen news on the Concacaf GC and Fifa CC.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I wasn't sure if this warranted a totally new one.

Germany won't play in Confederations Cup

No apology necessary. I subscribed to this thread on the offhand chance it would "persist." Thank you for the latest update.

Any speculation on who will be invited to the tourney next?

I thought FIFA had arranged a unified schedule so the Confed Cup wouldn't have this problem?

Not that I really care. I'd personally rather see the silly thing die completely.

Rick. Just play it in two stadiums on the east coast.

Giants Stadium here in NYC/NJ & RFK Stadium in DC or Gillette Field in Foxboro. Or how about Crew Stadium. At least a close drive, close Train, or a quick plane.

    Why Germany instead of Italy?

Posted the same question in a similar thread over in the USA Men forum, but ... why were the Germans invited instead of the Italians? Italy is the Euro 2000 runner-up and would therefore be the traditional replacement for France as the UEFA rep since France is already hosting. I understand that the 8th spot is a "guest" spot and FIFA can invite whomever they like, but if they're going to invite another European team, why wouldn't Italy be first in line?
