We have the best outside backs in the league, fantastic wingers, an over productive 10 shirt, an alert CB pairing, a DM combo more vicious than a drunken pit bull and a hype train on fire wanting to destroy his former employer all led by a world class tactician. And a BMF. 3-1 Crew victory.
Because it makes no sense and our guys are pissed and hungry . We somehow win 1-0 off a set piece by Sauro who starts
“It was a lovely romantic walk with my wife on a pristine beach until the LSD wore off, and I realized I was just dragging a stolen mannequin around an empty parking lot.”
Blue Jackets are to hits what Crew is to crosses. Both teams relentlessly focusing on unproductive things leading to failure.
There was a moment of enlightenment in college football 5 or so years ago along the lines of: lots of good plays called in immediately after the last play were way better than a few great plays called more slowly. The reason why a good play called quicker is better than a great played called slower is because it does not allow the defense time to recover or set up. I think this principle applies in soccer too. Speed of attack appears to matter more important than precision. So unless we can get out of this mindset of checking up, passing backwards, and sacrificing our own quick options merely to retain possession, we are going to continue to have problems scoring goals.
Raaaaalston. Ralston. Raaaaaaalston. I could quote that series of marketing videos for days. How silly. I do not get to make it to tonight's game, which is probably for the better. I get weepy thinking about our Crew going against a GBS team (and I hate the Galaxy). I hope the Nordecke shows him some love prior to the game because during and after the game, well that love ought to be reserved for those still donning the Crew black and gold.
Personally, and for no other reason than to vote in these polls, I’m pleased that the “lose by two” era has returned. It keeps us humble.
I will not be cheering for GBS at any time tonight, and won't ever again (unless he comes here to coach). Maybe when he retires from coaching, same as I did with McBride.
I'm heading down tonight with a pair of grad students who have never been to a pro soccer match. They're pretty excited to take it in...though I'm worried a mid-week game in the middle of a historic losing streak isn't going to give them the right introduction. I'll be tailgating with them, arriving 6-6:30. I'll be happy to cheer GBS before and after the match--just not during. Absolute legend.
They may be treated to a bevy of goals, goals, goals. Who doesn't love a goalfest? ...we won't be scoring them, natch.
This. He chose not to come here to coach. Thank you for what you have done. But now you are one of them.
