Now that the non-conference schedule is out, it's time to start a new thread for the Buffs. Mark your calendars 📅📰 https://t.co/8FojPeHqQh#GoBuffs pic.twitter.com/81g7hlWO3f— Colorado Buffaloes Soccer (@CUBuffsSoccer) June 10, 2022 On paper the opposition at home generally looks weak. This highlight will be DU to close out the non-conference portion of the season. But the three road matches (BYU, Michigan and Michigan State) will be a real challenge.
CU had four players graduate, with Shanade Hopcroft likely the most difficult to replace. She played this spring with the London City Lionesses in England's second division and looks to have a solid start to a professional career. On paper, the Buffs have an outstanding recruiting class coming in, ranked #8 in the country before adding three more players in the spring. https://cubuffs.com/news/2021/11/10/soccer-sanchez-adds-five-for-2022.aspx - The first 5 signees. Leila Lister is a forward on Scotland's U-19 national team - https://cubuffs.com/news/2022/1/25/soccer-buffs-add-lister-for-the-fall.aspx Emerson Layne is from Fort Collins and it appears she originally signed with TCU. She's a 4 start recruit. https://cubuffs.com/news/2022/4/5/soccer-buffs-add-colorado-native-layne.aspx And finally, Lindsey Smith, a transfer from Toledo will give the Buffs depth at keeper - https://cubuffs.com/news/2022/5/24/soccer-sanchez-adds-keeper-for-upcoming-season.aspx

Forgot to mention that in this group is Juliauna Hayward from just down the road in Broomfield is the ranked #6 in the country by Top Drawer and the #2 midfielder. As far as I can recall, she is the highest rated player to sign with the Buffs.

After a career-changing text from a number she didn’t have saved in her phone, @sandiegowavefc’s Taylor Kornieck is poised to take on the international stage.@benpickman on one of the #USWNT’s freshest faces and the new heights she’s reachinghttps://t.co/vAi8u1f6SC— SI Soccer (@si_soccer) June 20, 2022
Agree - I'd much rather see Northern Colorado, Wyoming, and Colorado State than Nebraska-Omaha, Valpo, etc. Hopefully next season Michigan and Michigan State will play in Boulder.
During the spring season I was able to get to the match v Wyoming. As has been the case during Sanchez’s time in charge, the Buffs appeared to come out in a 4-3-3. What grabbed my attention was that the forward line had Kayleigh Webb and Hannah Duguid flanking Shyra James. Last season, Webb and Duguid played in the midfield. So was this just a spring experiment or will we see Webb and Duguid up front? The forward trio was supported in the midfield by Jenny Beyer*, Ellen Jones** and Jade Babcock-Chi. All were impressive in their ability to work with each other and dictate the attack. There were not too many hopeful long balls and their vision was good. (Obviously, there were others that came off the bench in this match and they too contributed) As a whole, this group was cohesive and determined in the attack. James did an outstanding job finishing in the match. Each goal she scored in a different way and demonstrated solid technical skill. It seems she was scoring regularly during the spring season. The Buffs will be in good shape if she can continue her confident goal scoring. My optimism about the potential of this side is only slightly tempered by the fact that the opposition in this match was Wyoming and it was a spring match. *Beyer is with the German U-20 national team this summer **Jones is with the Welsh national team this summer on the developmental squad
I trust that we will see some posts from derbarkasmann from time to time as the season goes by. As far as I know he is still a fan, but has moved several hundreds of miles away into the mountains to be with family. He's a great guy, and his observations and writing style are excellent for this forum!
He moved to Grand Junction a few years ago and is all over the Colorado Mesa University sports scene. Hopefully he will be able to make it to some CU soccer games this season and give his insights.
USWNT dream has come true for former CU Buffs soccer standout Taylor Kornieck (story by @prooney07) --https://t.co/NVL36dGFba #CUBuffs #Pac12— Buffzone (@buffzone) June 24, 2022

Kornieck played about 30 minutes last night. The big news is that she is on the roster for the CONCACAF W Championship which is the qualifying tournament for both the 2023 World Cup and the 2024 Olympics. The tourney runs from July 4 -18th in Monterrey, Mexico. It's likely she get on the pitch one way or the other during the tourney. Kornieck came in at about the 65th minutes in tonight's US v Jamaica match which the US won 5-0 (and it wasn't that close). I wasn't able to see the full match, but in the highlights she was inches away from an assist and a goal. The US has one more match in group play on versus Mexico on Sunday night. It's likely that she'll come off the bench again. With tonight's win combined with Mexico's loss the US has qualified for the 2023 World Cup. To qualify for the 2024 Olympics they need to win the tourney 🇺🇸x🇯🇲 | #USWNT no Torneio da ConcacafEUA 3 x 0 Jamaica - Substituições60'🔺 Trinity Rodman, Kristie Mewis🔻 Ashley Hatch, Lindsey Horan65'🔺 Taylor Kornieck🔻 Rose Lavellepic.twitter.com/WlreUpj8gZ— Na Cara Do GOAL (@NaCaraDoGOAL) July 8, 2022
