Torres is one hell of a box-to-box MF. He's snuffed out about 5 or 6 runs just before Ecuador was about to be one-on-one with the goalie. Really impressive effort.
I knew this match would be tough. Ecuador outplayed us in the friendlies before the tournament and outplayed us for long stretches of this match. Glad we got the 3 points and we are basically through to the World Cup barring some huge strange collapse. My main observations are: 1) We defended well as a team. Something before the tournament I was very skeptical about but we are growing as a unit which is encouraging. 2) Monsalve and Luna can be such world class players if they could just do better in the final third and learn how to pull the trigger faster when shooting. 3) Cabezas Freakin' Hurtado. The guy is a hustling beast. Seems like 90% of the time when he runs at a defender he finds a way to either steal the ball or deflects it. One of the best young players I have ever seen at pressing and getting a piece of the ball chaotically. I hope he does go to England (as some rumors have indicated) cause I think he can thrive there.
