Re: Amistoso: Colombia vs. Paraguay 9/9/2007 (r)

Math is math, they lost their last three games....FIFA calculates math not what we feel is better based on who did what....

the score does not count...5-0 or 1-0 is the same

you can argue that COLOMBIA should get bonus points for downing the confederation champs in copa america (even with scrubbs from the MLS)....

how is mexico rated higher than us when we beat them every time we play.... or how is scotland 14th when they havnet made a WC since I was born ???

Fifa ranking dont make sense why is Uruguay so high and so many Euro teams in the top 10?

I think Colombia is like 17-22nd in the world personal, we just dont feel like playin when we need too

dont get why ecuador is rated so low when they went 1 on 1 with england and i thought they were the better team even tho they lost and tied italy last yr.... and they are like 60th

it is accurate by how they rate SA teams Brasil, Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia, Paraguay. Think those are the top 5 but u can argue 3-5 but those are the teams that should be going to the WC every time

using the rankings that were published after Copa America and the friendly matches that were subsequently played:

    Col 1 - 0 Mex
    Colombia received 518.805 points

    Col 2 - 2 Per
    Colombia received 143.08 points

    Col 1 - 0 Par
    Colombia received 496.86 points

    Colombia tallied 1158.745 points

    Par 1 - 1 Ven
    Paraguay received 141.12 points

    Par 2 - 3 Ven
    Paraguay received 0 points

    Par 0 - 1 Col
    Paraguay received 0 points

    Paraguay tallied 141.12 points

I might be wrong, but not too wrong .

before the newly released ranking's, Paraguay and Colombia were dead even in points, both ranked as #31. So obviously in such a situation if one of the teams does considerably better than the other, especially with such few number of games played and seven or eight teams with similar amount of pointsyou will see a major difference, hence Colombia's +7 rank ascent, and Paraguay's rank of #31 once again.

Naturally, regional and oppositional strength are factors in FIFA's ranking system, and Europe's confederation is weighed the highest, Conmebol following close second. However CAF, CONCACAF and OFC all weigh the same and much lower than EUFA&CONMEBOL, So European teams, even their weak teams, have an inherent advantage over everyone else even before they hit the pitch.

concordingly vis a vis ergo and other Matrix II words, these rankings are desgined to favor the Euro's on a macro level. BUT, as you so poignantly noticed ^_^, the regional rankings are certainly more accurate because when you take Europe out of the equation, the ranking's are fairerererrr within each individual confederation.

you can go take a look at how they come up with the points on wikipedia, mine differ from the ones that appear on the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking page b/c im sure they take another step that takes the all time number of points into consideration as to not allow the number of points a team gets over time out of control and so that one team does not jump in front of another by 50 spots and such :p

damn, we had two ties in a WCQ and we moved down, maybe they phased out old results...if we would have won against Bolivia, I am sure we would have moved up three spots....

I'll take it as is. We're in 'good company' with the teams that I feel Colombia is on par with (Paraguay + Uruguay) -- then somewhat further : Chile.

K but I prefer if we are higher up than Fing US and Mexico.....

I see us better than the US and on par with Mexico if not a little better and on par with Paraguay. That 5-0 was an end of an era for most our team and I can't thank Paraguay enough for that because if it wasnt for them Pinto wouldnt have changed his shit team and we would not have 8 points right now
